I just haven't been in California between September and December since 2005. I'm not entirely sure I remember what it feels like. I know there's dry wind. Does it feel crisp the way New England does, though? You're right about the grey (though here I think has more of a tendency toward grey than New England does), and I can generally do without rain in 40 degree weather, but I really like the crisp, clear days with freshly fallen leaves and ripe apples. The leaves here aren't as brightly colored, and I don't think the apples are grown locally, but the air had the crisp feeling the other day.
