OH MY he IS lovely! And I can see the love that has gone into the making of him. Absolutely gorgeous. Has he been given a name yet?

He will be as loved and treasured and something to pass down from generation to generation. A treasure indeed.

When I talked to my mom the other day she said she kept thinking of boys' names for him, but somehow she thought "he" was a girl. So he's not named yet. We'll be going up to Maine to visit her for a few days next month. He/she may have a name by then. My mom used to run a small seasonal craft shop, and occasionally she made teddy bears for sale in the shop. She told me she brought a wire doll's chair in from the shop to sit him on, and she crocheted a blanket the other day to drape over the chair under him. I think she really likes him and truly appreciates the time I put in on him, and that really pleases me.

I look forward to you seeing it in person, too. That mean's I'll be seeing you in person! And I like it better than the first one I made for your grandma.

Looks beautiful! Neat to see it finished, and as neechan said, can't wait to see it in person! ^_^ Congrats! (really like the ribbon work on the feet! Gorgeous, as always! ^_-)

The feet are one of my favorite parts. I picked the flowers on them particularly for her: daffodils and crocus because she has a ton of them in her garden in spring. And lupines on the other side for summer in Maine. The purple flowers on the belly were supposed to be lupines, but I made them too wide at the bottom compared to the top, so they look more like lilacs, although the leaves are wrong for lilacs and I didn't bother redoing them, so I'm not sure what they are. Oh well. Doubt if most people will notice. And he's DONE! That's the important thing, because it's the first needlework project I finish in a few years, and I have too many WIPs!

Lupines are pretty cool flowers, especially when you see whole fields of them in bloom at the same time. Thanks for your comments. A subgroup of my Crazy Quilting group meets every Thursday afternoon to stitch for two or three hours, and I've been trying really hard for the past several months to get free of work and join them at least a couple times a month. That's really helped get me stitching again, partly because even if I only stitch for those few hours each week, it's something; and partly because seeing what everyone else is working on stimulates my creativity and makes me want to stitch more. I'm already working on three other projects, two small gifts that I'm making to meet two stitching challenges issued this winter by one of our group members; working on these for the challenges gives me deadlines, so I'll insure they get done for the intended recipients; and a wallhanging I started last year with fabrics from the Japanese kimonos I brought back from Japan in 2006--one of the few things I've made for myself instead of to ( ... )

That's just unbelievably beautiful. You're right, the embroidery pops even more on the black bear. All the detail is just stunning.

Thank you! I thought you'd like him. I really enjoyed choosing the threads and stitches and trims for the seams and patches. Most of the brightly colored crocheted edgings on him are pieces of handkerchief edgings my mom or grandmother crocheted several decades ago. They both always carried linen handkerchiefs in their purses for which they had crocheted the edging laces. As the handkerchiefs have worn out to the point of the linen tearing, my mom turned them over to me so I could cannibalize the edgings for my CQ.

Wow - that is a stunningly beautiful piece of work! I love all the little details - it's so clear that a lot of love and skill has gone into creating it. Is there any specific significance to any of them? They look like they probably do mean something to the recipient. ♥
