Rhetorically, I think there is no "the one" but there is a "best fit right now."

Yeah, I don't think it's "the one person who is destined to have a perfect relationship with me forever" as "the person who is the best fit for encouraging, challenging, and loving me for this phase of my life, with the potential to travel on together".

I don't think it's usually someone out there somewhere, it's someone who has become part of your life and you've grown together, more like your favorite pair of sandals than Cinderella's glass slipper.

My read on it is that booth was trying to tell brennan that that person (namely: Booth) wasnt going anywhere. He was vague enough that Brennan could interpret it in a more uniform way, but that was Seeley coming out and saying "Temperence, im gunna be here" in a way that she will accept, since as of one of the last shows ive seen, they had discussed trying a relationship, but werent doing it.
