My barbaric girlfriend
I haven't posted in a while, so I thought I might as well post about a manga that I'm still following
My Barbaric girlfriend/ Your and my secret, by Ai Morinaga is a gender bender series which has around 49 chapters scanlated. I don't think this manga is too mainstream, which is probably why the scans take a while to come out
I'm not too sure what I was expecting when I first came across it. I suppose I thoguht it woul be interesting since from the blurb Momoi seemed to enjoy being in a boy's body (not too often that occurs)
Of course, I had assumed that the protagonist was the female, and that turned out not to be the case, instead, the story follows Uehara Akira.
Like many gender benders, when Akira becomes Momoi, his best friend Senbongi falls in love with 'her'. However, unlike most others, this continues even after Senbongi finds out the truth about the new Momoi. The series then follows Akira's feelings, as he somehow finds himself having feelings as well. Though having said that, it's alot more funny than romantic
I suppose what I like about this manga is that the main problems are alot more internal (ie Akira's feelings) and, therefore come across as alot less contrived. No real love triangle drama (well, at least no third wheel drama, and I woudn't call it a love triangle anyway since Momoi doesn't have any feelings towards Akira)
The latest chapters deal with the prospect of Akira actually having the chance to turn back into his real self, which, he decides to renig at the last second (although it may not have worked anyway, having ended up shrinking Momoi's dad .. long story).. so right now the focus is on Uehara trying to figure out what he really wants
I also have to add that Momoi's dad, aka Spock, is pretty funny.. Seems he likes Akira as a girl too, and treats him as his (aka, not liking Senbongi) .. which you have to admit, isn't easy when you have shrunk XD
