Summary:It’s been a long hard winter for both Jared and Jensen and all they want is to get back to the comfort of their own home and prepare for the arrive of their first child. The first trick will be getting back in time.
Author Note: This was written as a birthday present for
mpregloveranon. Her birthday was actually in February, so it’s two months late, but better late than never, right? Anyway I hope she likes it and this makes up a little for the less than perfect birthday she had this year. If it wasn’t for
mpregloveranon, a lot of my fics would never get finished! So huge thanks to her for all her support over the last year. You’re the best hon. :D
Jensen winced as he shifted his awkward bulk a little over the creaking saddle, trying desperately to ease the steady throb that had settled into his rear.
A good four hours they had been in the saddle, doing their best to get as many miles as possible in before nightfall when they would be forced to find shelter from the cold Autumn night.
A low hiss escaped him as sharp pains radiated out from low in his pelvis when the horse’s hoof caught in a small sink hole.
“Jen, you okay?” Jared’s concern bled through the timbre of his voice.
He took in a few deep breaths, gathering himself before turning awkwardly in the saddle, the sharp pull of the ligaments in his lower belly making him wince once more as he tried to assure Jared that he was okay. Having failed miserably in his attempt, Jensen sighed, resigning himself to another night on the ground in the lonely wilderness, certain that Jared would be calling a halt to their push for home in lieu of getting Jensen off the horse sooner.
“Come on Jen, let’s call it for today and get you settled for the night. We can push on again in the morning.
“I just really want to get home, Jare.” Jensen couldn’t help the waver in his voice as his need to feel comfortable again played havoc with his emotions.
Jared’s stricken expression sent guilt curdling his already churning belly.
“Jen, I’m sorry. I thought we’d be home weeks ago, I never thought I’d have you out here this far along. I’m so sorry babe.” The sorrow coursing through Jared’s ragged tones had Jensen closing his eyes in defeat.
“I don’t blame you, Jared. The weather was just insane. Neither of us was banking on being holed up at the creek house for over a month with snow drifts so high that not even the horses could walk through them. It’ll be okay. I’m just huge, uncomfortable and emotional. Not the best combination when out in the wilderness,” Jensen soothed as he slowed Sadie so he could pull alongside Jared.
Jensen couldn’t help but lean into his husband’s hand as Jared caressed the side of his cheek and cupped his jaw with his huge palm.
“I just want you two to be safe and comfortable. It’s only a half day more at the most to get to the cabin. Let’s stop for tonight and you can rest and not risk falling when Sadie stumbles in a sink hole,” Jared pleaded with him as his hand dropped to rest over Jensen’s distended belly, soothing gentle circles into the hard rolling surface.
Jensen grimaced as baby pushed down into his pelvis, causing pain to pulse out through his hips and back.
“God, yeah okay. I think you’re right. I’m just getting more uncomfortable and if you ever want to have sex again you’d better find somewhere for us to stop so I can get off this damn horse and stretch out somewhere,” he whined around another grimace as the baby collected a kidney in its manoeuvrings to get comfortable in there.
Jared chuckled as he smiled at him, patting Jensen’s huge belly affectionately before moving off to look around for a suitable spot to pull up for the cold night ahead. Jensen rolled his eyes at him as he kneaded the aching muscles of his lower back and tried to reposition himself into a comfortable spot in the saddle. After a good five minutes of trying, he heaved a disgruntled sigh as the task proved impossible and turned his concentration to seeking out a shelter for the night.
“Jen, over here.”
Jensen struggled to pull Sadie around from his grazing on the sparse grasses on the edge of trail, swearing slightly under his breath as his huge belly got in the road of controlling the horse who was more interested in dinner than listening to his commands.
“Come on boy, let’s go see what Dad’s found and you can not only get my huge ass off your back, but you can eat as much of that grass as you like,” he urged as he lead a reluctant Sadie over towards where Jared had called from up ahead off the trail a ways.
He finally managed to find Jared in amongst a copse of pines, interspersed to almost form a circle, offering good shelter from the winds that were sweeping through the forested plane, as well as a convenient bed of soft pine needles to spread their bedding on. Jensen was almost ready to get down off the horse and kiss Jared to within an inch of his life. It was probably the best place they had found since they had left the creek house three days ago. Jensen was looking forward to not waking up unable to move for half an hour while his back unravelled its knots from laying on the rock hard ground all night.
Jared turned to him with a beaming grin, after tying Harley loosely to the tree branch so he could comfortable graze.
“So you forgive me for having you out here so long? Check out these pine needles, babe, they’ll make an awesome bed for you tonight.”
Jensen couldn’t suppress the huge grin that spread across his face in return. “Yeah, I guess you’re forgiven. Come and get me down from here. My hips are that sore I don’t think I can do it myself without killing us both,” he teased as he patted his undulating belly affectionately, not able to help the grimace that creased his face as the baby chose that moment to punch a hand out into a sensitive spot low in his pelvis.
“Damn it, I swear this baby will be a prize fighter when it’s born. It sure as hell knows how to pack a powerful punch,” he whined as he rubbed at his aching stomach.
Jared’s faced pinched with concern as he rushed over and carefully helped Jensen to slip awkwardly down off the saddle onto his suddenly wobbly legs.
“Whoa, I got you,” Jared cried as he stepped in behind and pulled him back to brace Jensen’s sagging body with his chest.
“Are you alright?” Jared’s heated breath puffed into the hair curling behind Jensen’s ears, tickling at the sensitive skin of his neck, causing a shiver to travel through his exhausted frame.
“Yeah...I’m alright. Just don’t...let go yet. The muscles...in my thighs...are still...trembling,” Jensen sighed as he tentatively tried to take most of his weight back onto his own two feet and not quite managing it. “Just need a minute...or two...I guess I just...pushed a bit too...hard today. Good thing...we’ll be home by... tomorrow night...I can’t wait to get...into my own bed....even if...we need to...change the sheets...‘cause they’ll be...layered with dust by now.” Jensen panted and rambled as he tried to distract Jared from the fact that he still wasn’t able to hold his own weight just yet.
“I’m sorry, I should have called a halt earlier. Why didn’t you say you were hurting so much?” Jared gently chastised.
Jensen turned awkwardly in his embrace, shifting himself around carefully to face Jared on still slightly trembling legs, but mostly carrying his own weight with the added reassurance of Jared’s strong grip supporting his arms.
“I’m alright, I promise. We’ll be home soon and, really, that is all I can think of right now,” Jensen confessed as he stretched his neck in to press a kiss to Jared’s lips over his bulging belly.
“Come on then, let’s get you settled and I’ll get the camp set up while you rest and relax,” Jared soothed, leaning over and delicately kissing the top of Jensen’s round belly, and getting a kick as a reward.
“Looks like junior wants me to hurry up too,” Jared chuckled as he carefully guided him over to a tree sheltered from the wind whose base was nicely carpeted with softened pine needles.
After slowly easing Jensen down to the base of the tree, Jared moved off to tend to setting up the camp for the night and settling the horses. Jensen fought to keep his eyelids from falling shut as the exhaustion of the day settled over him like a heavy, smothering shroud.
It was Jared’s soothing fingers running through his hair that pulled Jensen from his impromptu doze against the tree. He groaned as the muscles in his neck protested the strain that his slumped sleep against the tree had caused. He wiped at the drool that had slid down his chin as he slept and tried to blink away the sleep that had crusted his eyes.
“Hey baby, our bed rolls are ready, do you want to come lay down with me?” Jared urged as he caressed his cheek.
Jensen couldn’t stop the sudden yawn that over took him, his exhaustion still pulling heavily at his whole body. He fought to keep his eyelids open as the pull of sleep tugged at him still.
“Jen, come on babe, let me help you over there and get you settled for the night, hey?” Jared said as he gestured over to their bedrolls and blankets. “Then you can sleep as long as you want, okay?”
“Nahhh, got to...got to pee,” Jensen croaked as he finally managed to get his thoughts in some semblance of order and his bladder called out for attention, the insistent need pushing him to full wakefulness.
“okay, let me help you up then,” Jared sighed as he stood and reached out to help him gain his feet.
“‘k, thanks,” Jensen mumbled as he maneuvered his body so that he could at least help a little in the standing process.
After finally getting to his feet after a good minute of grunting effort on both their parts, Jensen breathed through the pain of his over stretch ligaments as Jared fussed around him and rubbed his support into his shoulder.
“You okay now?” Jared asked tentatively as he dropped his hand to knead his knowing fingers into spasming muscles of Jensen’s lower back.
Jensen smiled and stretch a little to present his lips for a kiss. A small hiss escaped him as pain pulled tight through his ungainly belly. His protesting ligaments reminding him he was still stiff from sleep.
Jared frowned before pressing a kiss to his temple instead and offered a brief squeeze to Jensen’s shoulders in support. Pouting slightly, Jensen braced his gravid belly with his arms and started to waddle off into the trees so he could relieve himself before he had an embarrassing accident.
“Call me if you need any help,” Jared teased as he turned to head back to their readied bed clothes.
“Not freaking likely buddy. You getting handsy is what got me in this state in the first place. Not letting those mitts near me now,” Jensen growled as he pulled up beside a tree to lean his shoulder and weight on it as he got down to business.
“I think there was a bit more to it than just my hands Jen, there were parts of me that were much more excited and involved in that event.”
Jensen huffed in mock annoyance before letting go of an extended happy sigh as he relieved himself and the insistent pressure on his bladder lessened some what.
He was pretty sure the baby had drop lower into his pelvis in the last few days as everything was now a huge effort, including walking, and it kind of felt like he always needed to go as there was constant pressure down low which made riding torturous.
Jensen shook himself off and push himself back into his pants, all while still leaning on the tree. He sighed heavily to himself again as he tried to pull enough energy together to get back to the bed rolls and Jared.
Maybe he could convince Jared to massage his back some more, the almost constant riding of the last couple of days had set up a continuous throb in the burning muscles of his back. No amount of wriggling in the saddle was able to lessen it anymore. Jensen was just so thankful that tomorrow would see them back in their home. By count, he still had a couple of weeks to go, but if the aches and pains in his body were anything to go by then he was guessing it was probably going to be a bit sooner than that. The thought of that was both exciting and terrifying at the same time. They both couldn’t wait to meet their little one, but would really like to be in the comfort of their own home when it happened. They were both prepared as much as they could be for birthing at home, but they weren’t really prepared to birth on the trail, mere miles from their home. Though for a while there Jensen had been convinced he would end up giving birth in their holiday cabin near their creek, which had only the bare essential, including, thankfully, a well stocked pantry. They had managed to almost strip it bare by time the snow had cleared and Jared had deemed it safe enough for Jensen to ride the horses back home, the risk of them throwing him from a trip in a sinkhole lessened with the coming of the melt. It was so late in his pregnancy that they had both thought long and hard about staying at the cabin until after he had given birth just in case the jostling of the ride triggered an earlier labor in between their two homes, but the idea of giving birth in the barren cabin opposed to three and half days of discomfort to be able to birth in the comfort of their state of the art modern home won out in the end.
As Jensen attempted to stretch out his aching back and was almost doubled over by the pull of his straining ligaments in his groin, he wondered if he made the right choice. They would probably make it back, but Jensen really wasn’t sure what state he would be in if the baby decided to come soon after they arrived home. He was disturbed from his musings when Jared called out to him to come to bed. Sighing heavily again, he braced his sore belly with his hands and waddled back to the comfort of his bed roll and the soothing arms of his husband.
After getting Jared’s help to ease down onto the bed rolls, Jensen hummed his happiness as Jared drew the blanket tight around them and snuggled him into his chest, pressing himself to Jensen’s back, his free arm wrapping around him to rub soothing circles into his finally quiet belly. Their child was always hyper active during the day, but thankfully was quiet and restful during the night. Jensen thanked his lucky stars as he knew that wasn’t the case for many people while pregnant. He was hoping that the restful at night pattern would continue on after the baby was born, but he definitely wasn’t banking on it. Jensen murmured his good nights to Jared as the relative comfort of their pine needle bed and the gentle rhythm of Jared’s circling hand lulled him off to sleep.
When he opened his eyes to see the cresting blush of sunrise spreading a dim glow across their forested resting place and the insistence urge to relieve himself pushed from the comfort of sleep for the forth time that night, he figured he would give up on sleeping as a bad joke, and help get the horses organised so they could leave earlier and get home sooner.
Biting off the moans and groans that got as far as his teeth as he extracted himself from the cocoon of warm blankets and husband, he slowly made his undignified crawl to the nearest tree to haul himself to upright without waking Jared.
After finally managing to get himself to standing, he braced his belly and walked a ways from the camp. He pointedly ignored the soft neighs of the horses eager for some breakfast, as he relieved himself and vowed to never have anymore children after this one was born.
He gave his bulging belly an affectionate pat, apologising for being so grumpy in the morning, but sterning requesting that he or she give Daddy a break when it came to pressing down on his bladder. Jensen was so absorbed in conversing with his baby that he didn’t notice Jared come up behind him until his arms wrapped around him and Jared’s cheek nuzzled in over his shoulder. His yelp of fright provided Jared with endless amusement as he tried to bring his heart rate back down from the stratosphere.
“Who did you think it was going to be Jen?” Jared chuckled as he pressed kisses to Jensen’s cheek and throat.
“Jesus Jared, don’t do that. It’s a damn good thing I’d already peed or it would definitely be a very unpleasant day for both of us,” Jensen scolded as he pressed his still slightly trembling hands to his fluttering heart.
Jared had the good graces to at least appear appropriately remorseful as he slinked around and gently cupped Jensen’s angry face in his giant palms, his thumb caressing the puffy skin beneath his eyes.
“I’m sorry babe, did you get any sleep last night? You look even more tired than when you went to bed. We could just about carry all our supplies in those bags under your eyes,” Jared fretted as he pressed a kiss to Jensen forehead, his concern pressing furrows into his brow.
Jensen sighed and leaned into Jared, “no not really. Let’s just get moving, I just want to get home and be in my own bed and not on the back of a horse anymore. Hmmm and indoor plumbing, my god do I want my ensuite bathroom again.”
Jared’s bright burst of laughter echoed out through the trees, causing a number of birds to abandon their morning rousts and take flight.
“Come then, let’s get you back in that saddle and get you home to your creature comforts then,” Jared grinned at him as he kissed him on the end of his nose.
Jensen swiped at him as he dodge way with another hearty laugh. “I’d love to see how much you’d be laughing if you were the one with a giant bowling ball pressing on your bladder 24/7,” Jensen grumbled as he slowly followed Jared over to the horse, eager get them feed and ready for the ride ahead. The sooner they got home the happier he would be.

Jensen couldn’t help the beaming smile that spread across his face as their humble ranch came into full view from the bend in the trail.
“Oh thank god,” Jensen sighed as he tried to stretch out the agonising burn in his back and hips. He couldn’t wait to get out of the saddle and lay down on their plush bed. Though, he would need another trip to the bathroom first.
“See that Jen, not long now baby. Soon as we get up to the house, you head on in and I’ll take care of the horses okay?” Jared urged as he pulled Harley up along side Sadie and squeezed comfortingly on Jensen aching thigh.
“Sounds great to me. I love you Sadie, but I really can’t wait to get off you,” Jensen chuckled as he patted fondly at Sadie’s seek black mane.
It was only a few more minutes and they were pulling up at the base of the stairs that lead onto the wrap around veranda. Jensen breathed a quiet sigh of relief and mentally prepared himself the painful process of getting off the horse.
“Just let me put Harley in the pen and I’ll be back to help you down okay?” Jared asked as he pushed Harley into a trot over to the small corral off to the side of the house.
Jensen nodded through a grimace as his back spasmed painfully, just as it had been the entire ride home. The spasm finally let go as Jared was finishing latching the gate and jogging back over to him and Sadie. Jensen squirmed a little in the saddle as he felt an uncomfortably urgent need to go to the bathroom.
“Hurry up Jared, I’ve got to go,” Jensen whined as he continued to squirm in the saddle.
“Again? Jesus Jensen, you went literally ten minutes ago,” Jared ribbed good naturedly as he came up beside Sadie and offered his shoulder and arm to help ease Jensen’s awkward bulk from the saddle.
“Umm, yeah, not that way,” Jensen blushed as he pushed up with Jared’s shoulder and stood in the stirrups before awkwardly hauling his leg over the back of the horse. He couldn’t help the groan that escaped him as his whole body protested loudly to moving in such a vigorous way. The insistent need to go just increased as he fumbled his way to the ground in an ungraceful slide.
“You okay?” Jared asked as he wrapped his arms around his shoulders in support.
“Mmmm, yeah...ugh...so glad that’s over,” he sighed as he gradually straightened himself back to standing. He had to bite down on his lips and hold his breath as gravity played havoc on his need to go. “Fuck, get out of the way Jare, I really need to go,” he cursed as he pushed past his bemused husband, and as quickly as his gravid body would let him, he pulled himself up the stairs and all but ran to the door.
“Okay, well, I’ll leave you alone to take care of that particular problem. I’ll sort out the horses. Call me if you need me...umm...yeah,” Jared finished with a blush before gathering up Sadie’s neglected reins and started to lead her over to the pen where Harley was waiting impatiently.
“Hmmm...yeah, ‘k....ugh god. Open god damn you,” Jensen cursed as he fumbled at the lock with his keys, his hands shaking slightly with his urgent need to get inside now.
Finally, the door pushed open and he stumbled into the entry way having to cling to the door handle to stop himself from tripping to the floor. He wiped at the sweat that suddenly covered his brow. Groaning as he straightened himself, he pushed away from the door, having to swallow heavily at the sudden nausea that was threatening to humiliate him even further, as he stumbled his way to the main bathroom.
Pushing his way through the bathroom door, he hastily fumbled to pull down his pants while simultaneously flipping the lid of the toilet. He whimpered his distress as a vicious cramp pulled tightly at his belly and he frantically pushed at his clinging clothes as he awkwardly turned himself towards the toilet. A shocked squeak of humiliation left him as the cramp pulled tighter and warm fluid gushed from him in a torrent. Feeling tears of shame prick at his eyes he looked down to see the mess only to be shocked into stillness as the clear liquid spread in a widening circle over his pants and the floor. It was just as he realised what it meant, that another vicious cramp, well given what had just happened more likely contraction, clamped down hard over his belly and his breath left him a rush as he cried out his distress.
“Argh...Jared...oh god, please not now,” Jensen sobbed as the contraction seemed to go on and on and he couldn’t pull in a complete breath for the excruciating pain spreading through his belly and pelvis.
Jensen clawed his fingers into his thigh and the gripped the edge of the vanity tight as the vice like pressure increased. His moan clipped off into a keening pant as the sudden need to push washed over him with the outbreak of a cold, clammy sweat.
“Fuck, no...no...no...JARED!” Jensen cried as he couldn’t help but give in to the overwhelming urge to bear down.

It had taken Jared longer than he expected to tend to the horses and get them squared away for the night. He really could have let them out into the paddock given it was still only early afternoon, but he didn’t think he’d have the energy to come out and secure them for the night later.
If he was honest with himself he was exhausted. He couldn’t even imagine how Jensen must be feeling having to ride this hard so late in his pregnancy. Jared was just so thankful that they were finally home and they could both prepare for the coming birth. Neither of them wanted a hospital birth and had prepared as best they could before they left for the cabin for the home birth, but there were a few final touches, like putting up the cot and finishing of the set of polished timbre drawers that he had left for their return. Of course, they had both intended to be home well over a month ago, but the unusual cold snap had trapped them at the cabin and delayed their return journey. Now they could just focus on getting ready for their little ones arrival and Jared could concentrate on keeping Jensen as comfortable as possible in his last couple of weeks.
Jared wiped wearily at his face, stretching his aching neck, back and shoulders as he slowly made his way back to the house. He was eager to get into the shower and finally wash away the trail dust. Then he was going to stretch out beside Jensen on their soft, roomy bed and sleep for a good ten hours straight.
He slowly pulled himself up the front steps, pausing briefly at the door to kick off his dusty boots and sighed contentedly at the delicious sensation of being able to freely wiggle his toes. Yawning widely, he quietly shut the door behind him, smiling in amusement to himself at Jensen’s need to leave the front door wide open in his mad dash into the house an hour or so earlier. Feeling bad for his amusement at his husband discomfort, Jared abandoned his first thought of a quick shower and went in search of him.
He was part way down the hallway to their bedroom when he heard a sound that had his blood running cold as ice in his veins. A second guttural moan had him forgetting all his own aches and pains and running towards the main bathroom in second.
“Jensen! What’s wrong? Are you in pain?” Jared called as he pushed his way into the bathroom only to pull up abruptly at the shocking sight before him.
Jensen was panting and moan as he leaned forward, very obviously pushing with all his might. The thing that had Jared splashing down into the puddle beside Jensen moments later was the distinct shape of his baby’s head already past crowning and mostly birthed.
“Oh my god, Jen. Shit, I got you. I got you baby. Just breathe, okay? Just breathe for me,” Jared fretted as he helped turn Jensen so that he was bracing over the vanity and gave Jared better access to catch the baby.
It was clear that Jensen was too far gone to really hear what Jared was tell him and just going with his instincts, which was obviously to get the baby out as quickly as possible. Rather than interfere, Jared just gently cupped the baby’s head and rubbed gently circles into Jensen’s trembling thigh. Jensen’s whimpering moans as he continued to push with the seemingly never ending contraction, broke Jared’s heart, but he knew all he could do was exactly what he was doing.
Finally, the contraction started to ease and Jensen’s moans petered off to harsh pants as his head dropped to his chest and his legs started to sag a little as they trembled with the effort to remain upright.
Jared quickly braced Jensen’s hip with his free hand and rubbed his thumb in circles over his hip to let him know he was there.
He almost didn’t hear Jensen’s quiet sob of his name a minute or so later as he felt Jensen’s body tense up with the next contraction.
“I’m here now, baby. You’re doing so well. You could have done this all with out me by the looks of it,” Jared soothed as he pressed a gentle kiss to the small of Jensen’s back as his husband started to moan out his distress and pain.
“Okay baby, you’re nearly there. One more big push and the head will be completely out,” Jared urged as he let go of bracing Jensen’s hip to cup the emerging baby’s head with his huge palms.
“Come on, nearly there...that’s it...that’s it...push baby,” Jared coached as he helped push back the stretching skin over the soft blood covered head.
Jensen let out a loud cry as he squatted a little and gave one last hefty push to send the slippery baby shooting into Jared’s waiting hands.
“Oh wow, you did it babe, you did it,” Jared cried as he brought the slippery, blood smeared baby up into his arms. A wide grin plastered itself across his face as he gazed down at the screaming infant cradled to his chest.
He’s attention was pulled away from the beautiful sight in his arms to his husband has he watched helplessly as Jensen slid down with a thump of his hip on the tiles when his knees finally gave way.
“Shit, Jen, god are you okay?” Jared cried as he tried to juggle the slippery baby into one arm while trying to pull Jensen over into his chest.
Somehow, he managed to get Jensen up and against his chest without dropping his other precious bundle and scooted them all back so he could rest against the glass wall of the shower recess. Gently, he brought their baby around so it was nuzzled into Jensen chest as he held them in his arms.
He felt a flood of relief when he felt Jensen draw his own arms up to wrap around the baby and Jared’s bracing arm.
“Did it...” Jensen murmured as he leaned back into Jared’s chest.
“Yeah, baby, you did it and almost all by yourself,” Jared praised as he gently kissed Jensen’s pale and sweaty cheek.
He felt Jensen’s body jostle slightly with his chuckle, “yeah...def...didn’t expect that.”
Jared grinned and peered over his exhausted husband’s shoulder. “It’s a boy, Jen. You got your little Benjamin,” Jared whispered as he watch his husband gently caress the soft cherub face of their newborn son.
“Our Benjamin,” Jensen sighed as he turned slightly into Jared’s arms and looked over at him with tired but contented eyes.
“Yeah babe, our Benjamin.”
