So I'm terminally bored with the internet, and I haven't read a good book in forever. Since ya'll (you know, the two or three people who still look at their livejournals) are interesting and well-read folk, what's something you've read recently that you'd recommend?

This great tragic book called "The Prince of the Marshes," about communication breakdowns between the British guy (Rory Stewart, who just got elected MP of Penrith and the Border) who was interim governor of a province in Iraq, and the sundry tribal factions fighting for spits of land and eked-out crops. Brilliantly written, frustrating, realpolitik.

Arizona just passed a law against teaching ethnic studies classes in public schools, so I'm gonna read something about ethnic studies. Don't know what yet.

Lot of good recomendations already. I'll throw one of my favs out there: Old Man's War. Earth is quarantined off from the rest of the galaxy, and all the populace knows is that 1: aliens are out to get us; and 2: the Colonial Defence Force only recruits 75 year olds to be soldiers, so they must have some way to make you young again. What follows is one part Starship Troopers (more the book), one part Braveheart, and one part Grumpy Old Men.

I just read "The Interpretation of Murder" which is historical fiction packed with mystery, intrigue, and Sigmund Freud. Who doesn't love that? I literally could not put it down.
