No mail yet. The dogs would have barked. Its cold today. Really cold. I picked Scott up at work this morning and my hands were freezing just touching the steering wheel. There was a skim of ice on the road, treacherous because people don't pay attention to the shiny spots being ice. I don't know what they are thinking. Especially the ones in ( Read more... )

I'll stand on that soapbox with you! 2 nights ago, we had fatality car accident and dispatched a wrecker to the scene after the roadway had been cleared. The wrecker was there to pull the "other" car out of the ditch after it's occupants were life flighted out. Well get this... some damned drunk driver ran off the road, clipped the driver of the wrecker (who was outside his truck attaching chain to haul the vehicle he was after). The driver of the wrecker was thrown 50 feet and was DOA on first response from EMT. What a bummer.
Why don't people stay put when they are drunk? Why don't we all pay more attention - I'm guilty too, we all are but for cryin out loud...it's ridiculous. Sorry such a long reply.

I know. I know. I have really been vigilant lately with some of my habits on the road. I have just seen and heard too much lately and it's hit far too close to home. We can't point the finger without changing our own behavior. My one friend calls from her cell phone on the road. Mind you, she is extremely flighty to begin with so paying attention is even MORE important with her. I have started to NOT take her calls if I see she is on her cell. Another friend of mine totaled someones car when she was lighting a cig, changing the radio, and talking to ME on her cell. I won't be appartied to that again. (sp?) Its easy to be distracted, but its common sense to watch out in bad weather.

I'm right there with you on that soapbox. A friend at work recently lost her 21-year-old sister in a car crash. The guy who hit her was speeding and just not paying attention. The family has recently learned that he was also legally intoxicated. NOTHING happened to him! It makes me really mad that he's getting away with causing the death of a dynamic young woman. :-(
