Tossing and turning in her bed, Su could not fall back asleep. She had been woken by a bird's incessant chirping through her open window, and after shutting the window, had tried to go back to sleep. It was six in the morning, for merlin's sake. She could afford to sleep at least a few more hours. But instead, she was thinking about how, despite being in Stoatshead Hill for almost two weeks, she had nothing to do. She didn't have a job yet, wasn't involved in any rebuilding efforts, and still hadn't met her neighbors. She knew she should just go and knock, but her old schoolgirl shyness had crept back, and she couldn't think of anything more daunting than approaching someone she had never met.
With a sigh, Su climbed out of bed, realizing she was not going to get back to sleep. Glancing out the window, she saw that it didn't look like it was going to rain. It was probably rather brisk, but perhaps a nice morning walk would do her some good and clear her head. After all, she had been hiding out in her flat ever since meeting up with Mindy by the old library. She didn't mean to be so anti-social, but first she had been sick, and then every time she thought she should leave, something within her told her that it would be easier to stay and read some books. Maybe it was that she had been away for so long, she just didn't feel like a part of this community anymore. Receiving Lisa's owl made her feel really guilty, but she couldn't remember where Lisa was living, and it was sort of depressing walking around by herself amidst all the damaged and ruined buildings. Yes, there were many signs of growth and rebuilding, but there were also signs of the war and destruction that reminded Su of how she was running around Shanghai while her friends and peers were fighting a war.
Quickly taking a shower and grabbing a couple of the chinese buns that her mother had packed in her luggage for breakfast, Su left her flat, quickly locking the door with a silent charm. Where to go? Starting down South Street, Su decided she would walk across the river, and stroll down River Road. That should be a nice walk.
