OWL series: Cedric to his parents, Cedric to Gwen, Amos to Cedric

Nov 06, 2006 18:25

Date: November 6, 2004
Characters: Cedric, Amos & Lucy, Gwen (NPCs)
Location: Cedric's home (tent)
Status: Private Owls
Summary: Cedric sends word to Canada, getting back a reply he expected but had hoped not to receive. (These span about 4 days, but I'm posting them together here for sense.)
Completion: Complete

Dear Mum and Dad:

The war is over. Even as I write that, it's hard to believe. I waited two days before sending this, in case it was a false report, but apparently not. Minerva McGonagall received post from Harry Potter and his friends, saying V. is dead.

I don't know if you want to consider coming home, but I'm rebuilding the house. I talked to a local architect who's also a Wizard about what it would take. We'll talk again soon to sort it out, and I'm going by the makeshift Ministry to get permits for laying gas and electric and phone lines this time. There's no sense in rebuilding and not putting that in. And mum? I'll rebuild the studio so you get the morning sun.

People are moving into the area right and left; it's becoming a new Hogsmeade -- only bigger, if you can imagine it. Diagon Alley is gone, Hogsmeade is gone, and it seems that everybody is congregating here. I'm still deciding whether I want to stay or come back home. Funny, I'm where I was born, but my first instinct is still to call Toronto 'home.'

I miss you both.

P.S. Please give the note I included to Gwen. You know how she is about owl post.

Gwen:

It's been a while, hasn't it? I know things got a bit awkward, and maybe it was easier not to write. But I wanted to let you know the war is over. As your father would say, this is probably a day late and a dollar short, but if you still want me, I could come home. I know what you said, but I'd come home. No assumptions, but we could see where things went from there.

Dear Ced:

Your mum and I went out and celebrated last night. But I don't think we'll be returning, at least not right this minute. I've got a good job here, and it's not as simple to come back as snagging the nearest portkey, you know.

As for the house, you know we'll help you with the costs, but for now, it's your house so you build it the way you want.

(I've deleted the letter from Gwen that was here, and will include it later.)
