Minerva frowned, tapping her wand to the page and setting an erasure charm on the last sentence. With a scratch of the quill she quickly rewrote her words. She sat back, a satisfied grin crossing her face as she put the quill down. It was finished.

Well, the first draft was finished, at least. Several volumes of Transfiguration notes that would form the basis of a series of new textbooks now lay in a neatly stacked pile on her desk. Minerva had added everything she could possibly remember from the school syllabus. It had not been an onerous task, merely a time consuming one. Not that she resented the work - rather - it had been something to sink her teeth into for a few weeks.

At the bottom of the pile was another set of notes that would hopefully form another text on the subject - a 'Guide to Everyday Transfiguration'. Hopefully this title would fill the gap for those who had not completed NEWTs, but who needed to perform common transfigurative spells.

Minerva had gone through her notes several times, and was still not satisfied. Undoubtedly her work could use a fresh perspective, and she knew nobody she could trust better than Cedric to do that. After his studies abroad and his degree in Transfiguration, she was looking forward to seeing what enhancements he could add.

With a quick flick of her wand, the notes were bundled up in a neat pile tied with string. Rereading the letter, she gave a satisfied smirk.

Dear Cedric,

I do trust you have had a wonderful Christmas season, and I wish you all the best for the upcoming new year.

You may recall a few weeks ago, I mentioned that I was compiling my considerable knowledge of the field of Transfiguration into a series of books. This was to help fill the void, as such, in what information has survived the war. The enclosed parcel contains what will hopefully become the standard school textbooks.

Hermione Granger intends to publish these books, however before I hand them over to her, I had hoped that you could peruse them, and offer any feedback and suggestions for improvement. I am quite aware that techniques have evolved over recent years, and that your studies abroad may shed some new light on old spells. I would also be keen to see any additions you might have as well.

I realise you are a busy man, Cedric. There is no rush, as Hermione has not given me any deadline for delivery of this work. I shall owl her and let her know that it is in your capable hands, should you happen to meet her in passing.

Do drop in for tea when you get an opportunity. I would certainly like to hear your thoughts on this, and to hear about the progress on your other projects.

Kindest regards,
Minerva McGonagall

Pulling out another piece of paper, she wrote another quick letter.

Dear Hermione,

I do trust that you and the boys had an enjoyable Christmas. I wish you all the best for the new year also.

I just wanted to let you know I have sent my Transfiguration drafts to Cedric Diggory for his perusal. His qualifications in the area are highly regarded, and I trust that he will want to add a more modern flair to the work.

Once he has returned the notes, I will be in touch. Do drop in for tea if you get a chance, it will be lovely to see you again.

Kindest Regards,
Minerva McGonagall.
