Percy was seated on the kitchen floor, a cup of coffee beside him and an old toothbrush in hand, scrubbing the baseboards. He'd already done the floor until it gleamed, but that just made the walls look suspect. He was taking his time over the task, enjoying it as best he could.
Normally, he would have been at work, but while he now had just as much work to do, if not more, most of it had to be referred to the Minister for decisions or approval or such, so it wasn't particularly efficient to be at work all weekend.
Perhaps once he got through with the baseboards, he'd head over to the other house--the trim around the new french doors needed to be painted and such, after all, and all the flooring save that which he'd replaced needed to be sanded and restained... Plus, it might not be bad to just consider something different for the kitchen--perhaps natural stone tiles. Slate, or perhaps limestone--basalt might be a bit too showy. And then he'd have to wait until he had enough saved up to order enough Italian marble for the bathroom, but then he could at least begin to think about moving in.
He sipped deeply at his coffee. It wasn't that he minded cleaning, but this house didn't quite reward it in the way that he just knew the new place would, once ready. Then he would have a home that could repay pride of ownership.
Still, in the meantime, that was absolutely no excuse for letting cobwebs collect.
