Roger felt the sun's first rays through the large window in his bedroom, and threw his forearm over his eyes. After a few minutes of trying, he figured he wasn't going to fall back asleep, and so he threw off the covers and stood before heading to the loo for a shower.

It had been the first night in his new house, and he'd slept fairly well, despite the way his night had ended. He still felt like something of an idiot. And he didn't want to be in the middle of Hermione and Ron's...whatever it was they were having. He should never have listened to Ron spout off about Hermione, when he knew perfectly well that he wouldn't want to hear it and it was only going to piss him off. He didn't want to lose either of them as friends. It wasn't even Ron's fault that he was mad. Yeah, Ron was an idiot, for being so clueless and apparently taking Hermione for granted. But he'd not been rude to Roger. He seemed to have no idea Roger and Hermione were close.

No, Roger should have stopped the conversation in the beginning. Given some lip service, made some excuse, or dumped Ron at the Five Alarm with a round or two. But when Ron said he'd fought with Hermione he'd been concerned and had wanted to hear more about it, which was selfish, really, because he'd known he couldn't really remain objective about it. Though, at least he had tried, while Ron was still there, to help him out.

After his shower, he pulled on track pants and a sweatshirt, then sat on the edge of his bed to pull on his socks and trainers. Since he was living here and everything, he'd take advantage of the opportunity for these morning runs as much as he could. The sun wasn't totally up yet, so he could see it rise if he headed out now. Stepping onto the porch, he stretched a bit, then trotted down the stream in the opposite direction of Cedric's cottage at a steady pace. Just before he increased his speed, he noticed Hermione walking along the water.

He slowed to a stop. She'd not seen him yet, and he took the moment to watch her before he called out to her. She was wearing the overlarge hoodie he'd given her to put on while they'd been painting the other night, and jeans. It was on over some pale blue top that he could see through the collar because it was so wide about her neck.  As before, she was swallowed in the sweatshirt, and looked even smaller than she was. Not to mention worn out, he noticed, getting a closer look. She had faint circles under her eyes and her mouth was somewhat drawn down. As she tilted her face to look at the sky he noticed the furrow in her brow.

Roger stepped closer now, and hoped he wasn't disturbing her. He kept his voice quiet. "Morning, Hermione."
