Ron awoke to find a cloudy, chilly Sunday morning. His plan was in place; he just needed to carry it out. He showered, dressed and made himself some scrambled eggs for breakfast. Then he Apparated to the book shop, determined not to waste any more time.
He felt the wards shift for him as he entered the building. As he expected, it was quiet. He was glad Crookshanks wasn't downstairs; the cat had never liked him (obviously it held a grudge for many years against a former rat owner) and Ron didn't want to have it start hissing and screeching, which would ruin his surprise. He climbed the stairs quietly, treading as lightly as he could in the hallway until he reached the door of Hermione's office. It was cracked open, which probably meant she was inside, already working, which was so typical of her.
Ron took a deep breath and hoped he would do everything the way he'd planned. He couldn't count on Hermione's reaction, of course, so all he could do was his own part and hope for the best. Pointing his wand toward the door, he whispered, "Alohomora!" Slowly the door opened enough so that Ron could see Hermione seated at her desk, already hard at work.
