It was Ron's birthday and Lavender felt a little, well, a little intimidated, she supposed. After all, Ron had seemed to put a lot of thought into Valentine's Day and their broom ride over the town. Then, they'd gone to Socks for breakfast and it had all been kind of sweet and romantic, if a little unconventional. So what was she supposed to do for his birthday?
After thinking hard about it, Lavender had contemplated going out to Roma or something, but dismissed that idea. Going out would cost more money and, besides, Ron was having a party at Xanadu tomorrow night, so it wasn't like he wouldn't be going out for his birthday at all. So she decided to cook for him instead. Well, they did say that the way to a man's heart was through his stomach, didn't they? Who were 'they', anyway? Not that it mattered. This had the added bonus of them already being at her place...
She'd had to Apparate up to her parents' house during her lunch hour to raid her mother's cookery books, which had prompted some slightly awkward questions until Lavender had admitted who she was cooking for. After that, Hyacinth Brown had been all to eager to help, even suggesting a few recipes that she considered quite romantic. Lavender didn't want to think too hard about that, as it would involve thinking about her parents and their love life.
Dessert had been easy to decide, and Lavender had made chocolate mousse. The main course had been a little more difficult and, even though she was worried it was slightly boring, she'd made spaghetti bolognese, although she'd been sparing with garlic because she certainly didn't want to kill the mood.
The food ready and under spells to keep it fresh, Lavender changed into the
lingerie she had bought in Exeter yesterday and then put on her favourite little black dress that was cut just low enough to show off some cleavage but avoid looking tacky or over the top.
Lavender was lighting candles around the flat just as there was a knock on her door. She smiled to herself, really hoping that it was Ron because, if it wasn't, then she was getting stupidly excited for nothing.
