After work, Cedric headed to Socks for dinner because he was feeling too lazy to cook.
It had been a quiet week, for which Cedric was grateful in the wake of his hectic life recently. He'd begun the process of moving displays from London, although he didn't want to move too much until Terry had a chance to work on the charms that weekend, and he needed to speak with Roger to see if he wanted the job of building the other needed displays. He'd got the donations from the painting party deposited finally and was a bit startled at how much it had turned out to be. He owed some thank you letters, and had been talking to various other museum directors on the continent about options to properly recognize large donors. He was also in the process of setting up a capital funds investment plan instead of spending the capital. And he'd had a letter from Marietta Edgecombe, confirming that the museum was on the schedule to receive a floo. So everything with the museum was on schedule.
His private life, however, was back to square one. No longer working two jobs, he now had time to spend with people, but
aside from getting as drunk as a lord with Katie, hadn't seen anybody socially. He'd taken to spending his lunch hour at the cinema, working on the sketch for Katie's wall -- a welcome break from finances, measuring and moving -- but after work, he went home, or into Exeter to his coffee house for an internet connection, to read his political blogs and answer email.
He wasn't sure what he was going to do with himself that weekend as Katie had said the cinema wouldn't be opening yet -- probably a wise choice given St. Patrick's Day -- but it left him facing the holiday at loose ends. He might ask what Katie was up to, but feared monopolizing her time just to keep him company as she did have other friends. He wondered if Ernie was back, and what had taken him away, but if Ernie was back, he'd be with Eleanor. He wasn't sure if Blaise was back, either, and if he were, he'd likely be with Terry. Zach was still missing, and Susan rarely left her farm. Hannah might not be busy, but she might also be out with Wayne -- he hoped she was, in fact. Ron would likely be with Lavender, Hermione with Roger, and he had no idea what Harry would be doing, but Harry had sort of been avoiding him and probably wouldn't feel up to a crowd in any case. He had no idea what was up with Lee, but perhaps they'd run into each other eventually. They'd not had much of a chance to talk at painting day. There were other people he knew in town, of course, but he didn't know them as well. He just might spend St. Patrick's Day reading a book. (His liver would thank him, and so might his bank account.) Nonetheless, it hadn't escaped his notice that most of the people he knew well were paired up.
For now, he headed down D to 5th street, where the restaurant was across the road (sort of) from the cinema, then went in. It was early enough it wasn't terribly crowded and he got a table near a window, where he ordered brown ale and fish and chips.
