Today had not been a good day. Lavender had nearly overslept and, when she had woken up, none of the lights had worked. Assuming it was something to do with the light bulb thingies, she'd prodded the kettle with her wand and made a strong cup of coffee as she'd fought back yawns and tried to wake herself up a bit.
She'd started work at five o'clock, thinking that it would be quite quiet, especially before most of the patients had woken up. Life wasn't that kind, though. Not only had she arrived at the hospital to find that all the electricity wasn't working there, either, but that almost their entire stock of potions had been stolen during the blackout. Pepper-Up Potion didn't cure everything and they could hardly get their hands on the right sorts of potions for the first round of medication that morning. The stress on the staff obviously filtered through to the patients, especially after they found out everything that was wrong. What made it worse for Lavender was seeing some of her patients, who had been on the mend, seriously start to deteriorate without their potions.
Because of the mess, Lavender had barely had time to grab lunch and had to work a little later, so by the time she had arrived home Lavender had been fit to punch something. Of course, then the food in the fridge had been warm, her freezer had defrosted and the lights still weren't working. She even had to charm the shower to make sure it worked properly.
Hair still a little damp, Lavender was yanking it up into a ponytail when she heard a knock on the door. For a moment, she was confused and a little annoyed, and then remembered, glancing quickly at the clock. It's after eight already? Lavender had thought she had more time, but she'd been running late.
Dumping her hairbrush, Lavender went to answer the door, glad to see Ron on the other side.
