Summary: Blaise has help choosing a cat.
Completion: Incomplete
He’d always liked cats. There was something about them that appealed to him. The way thy moved, hunkered down against the floor as they watched potential prey; graceful, purposeful, aloof and patient. That appealed to Blaise on some level. Dogs weren’t like that; all bounce and excitement and short attention spans. He didn’t dislike them per say, but they didn’t have the allure of a cat. And cats were independent unlike dogs and that quality in itself held its own appeal to him.
His mother favoured cats too, but Blaise tried not to think about that too much as he made his way to the animal shelter with Terry and Ben waiting for Hermione.
He’d finally committed himself the day before into this venture, sending an owl to Hermione to ask her help given that she was involved with the project. He’d put it off long enough, having intended to find one for a few months. Since December in fact. Now seemed a good time. It would be another distraction and something to keep him company when Terry couldn’t stay. Since Blaise’s return from France he’d found an unexpected desire for company that he hadn’t experienced before. He supposed Hermione and Terry were rubbing off on him too much.
He wasn’t sure what had driven him to turn up at Terry’s that morning and ask for his and Ben’s help. He was perfectly capable of picking one alone with just Hermione. There was something disconcertingly domestic about the whole thing, Ben’s presence in particular. But he’d promised once that Ben could help him when the time came, and he wasn’t about to start breaking promises to Terry’s son. In an odd way he was starting to become a little fond of him.
“I don’t want a ginger cat. And none of those odd inbred flat nosed ones,” he said, looking down at the bouncing ball of energy that was Ben.
