It was absolutely obscene that one couldn't buy fishnet stay-ups in Stoatshead Hill. Summer was coming, for Merlin's sake - a witch needed lighter cover than the stockings and suspender belt she wore in winter.
She wanted to support the local economy, but when it didn't supply an absolute necessity like fishnet hold-ups, she had no choice but to apparate into Exeter. Honestly, the standards of dress in that town were appalling. Everyone getting about in those hideous muggle Jean things.
Well. Perhaps the fitted styles looked good on the young men. There was something to be said for a well-accentuated arse. But apart from that, no.
She could say much more for the inhabitants of Exeter, really, but most of these muggles didn't know any better. After all, what was to be expected? This wasn't London or Paris. But surely there would be somewhere she could buy decent hosiery.
The day was dry, and sunny at least some of the time, so wandering up High Street was pleasant enough. Certainly pleasant enough that several window displays caught her eye and she paused to inspect them. She was especially entranced by a
satin skirt in one window, and then a
handmade peacock feather one in another. The feathers even got her in the door. The eight hundred pound price tag sent her straight back out again. And then oh! An absolutely
gorgeous velvet coat - on sale! Clearance for spring!
Rita took a step back. Merlin, any closer and she'd be pressing her face against the window like a kid outside a sweet shop.
No. Fishnet hold-ups. Summer coming. She'd do what she came to do and not get distracted by the blasted shiny things. She could be consistent enough to find what she was looking for without buying everything else in town first. Seriously. She could.
After all, she had to come back this way anyway, didn't she?
A few minutes later, she found Ann Summers. Now, this place looked like it would cater to her needs.
It did. Oh, did it ever. She found herself perusing the rest of the lingerie, the toys. She was particularly interested in their selection of strap-ons, remembering the letter she'd written to Kingsley. Interesting. Noted for future reference.
Despite her resolve, she managed to buy a new lingerie set along with her hold-ups. Well, every girl needed red lace French knickers, didn't she?
She paid for the goods and made her way out onto the street. Now. She had an appointment with a purple velvet coat.
