It seemed like the right sort of day for doing this. It was chilly for May, and a slow steady rain fell on Stoatshead Hill and the surrounding area. It was the sort of day you'd expect a funeral to be held, if those Muggle films were to be believed, a dreary day with everyone wearing black and standing beneath umbrellas. Ron didn't have an umbrella, but even if he did he wouldn't bring it. After breakfast, he put on his macintosh and rainboots and left a note for Harry and Hermione, saying he was going to pick up Lavender and he might be gone most of the day. Leaving the house, he went to the garden behind it and picked a large bunch of the lilacs that had already started blooming, some of the first flowers of spring. The garden was really Hermione's more than anyone's but he didn't think she would mind, considering where he was taking them. He picked a couple of yellow tulips too and kept them separate in his other hand, then Apparated to Copper Towers. The electric was still out so he walked up the stairs to Lavender's flat and knocked on the door. When he'd spoken with her earlier in the week about doing this, she was supportive. He would need all the support he could get today.
