All things considered, life wasn't too bad at the moment. Work was still tiring, though at the end of the month Lavender was going to be a full time apprentice midwife, giving up her hours as a mediwitch. Even if she loved her job, there was no way she could carry on working the hours that she was currently doing and still have time to do the things she wanted (and spend time with the people she wanted). Lavender knew that ten years ago she would never have thought herself capable of doing what she did. Still, it wasn't too bad - for her last couple of weeks she was going to be helping look after a couple of new trainees before handing them over to a colleague, Sheila, who had been on maternity leave for the better part of the last year.

Her relationship with Ron was going strong, too. She'd had a moment of panic when she'd found out that Ron had moved out of the house that he shared with Harry and Hermione. Did he expect to live with her? Lavender knew from that panicked first reaction more than anything else that she wasn't ready to live with him yet. She could easily see that in their future, of course, but right now it probably wasn't good for either of them. It was hardly the right circumstances for them to move in together, anyway - Lavender still couldn't believe what Harry had done. Still, she'd told Ron that he could stay at her place any time he wanted.

They'd spent another weekend together, which she'd loved. On Sunday Ron had even found himself a new flat. After a couple of days of thinking about it, Lavender was wondering just how Ron would cope with living by himself for what was probably the first time in his life. She decided to see it as a positive thing - a learning experience. If (or, she supposed, when) they ever lived together, she didn't want him completely incapable of looking after a house or flat.

Or is that just me turning into my mother?

Taking advantage of the lovely weather - it was far less humid than it had been earlier that afternoon - Lavender decided to walk the long way home along River Road. She wasn't the slightest bit inclined to take up running like Parvati, but much preferred walking. There were far more pleasurable ways to get breathless and sweaty, after all.

Lost in thoughts of what she might have for dinner, Lavender missed a slightly dodgy paving slab, tripping over. She fell to her knees, putting out her hands to stop her fall and letting out a noise of pain as she grazed her palm.
