It was ten mintues 'til nine o'clock, and Eleanor was quite certain she might throw-up before she it was time to put out the open sign. Sleep had been elusive at best, and as tempting as it had been to get up in the middle of the night and pop over to the shop to make sure she hadn't forgotten anything important, she had forced herself to stay in bed until six 'o clock.
Still, she had arrived an hour early to go over everything one last time, and more importantly, make Ernie go over everything one last time to make sure she hadn't overlooked anything. Now she was rearranging the tulips that Dean had brought her yesterday, and checking her watch every few seconds to see if it was time to open yet. Ernie was doing his best to keep her calm, and Eleanor didn't quite know how to tell him that just his presence there today was a huge relief. Otherwise, she might have thrown in the towel altogether and stayed in bed that morning.
When the time finally came, Eleanor walked slowly to the door, feeling like she was going to her certain doom rather than simply unlocking it and flipping over a sign. Once it was done, she turned to Ernie, took a deep breath, and said, "Do you think anyone will show up?"
