It was Friday night, the first Friday since Ron came back that he actually felt like a human being again. He'd ventured away from the house only three times so far, once for a family party, another time to buy food at the local market, and another for a meeting with senior Order members. Tonight, he thought, was really the beginning of life after Voldemort. He had to get out of the house. Maybe not get too rowdy, just go out and eat somewhere other than their own kitchen or dining room. Of course his best mates would have to go too.
Roaming the house, he awoke Harry from a light nap in the sitting room and dragged Hermione away from the book she was reading in her bedroom. "Come on," said Ron, "we've got to get out some time. We can't spend the rest of our lives by ourselves in this house." Who could resist that logic?
The trio set out north on Alpha Street, bundled up against the late autumn chill. They walked across the river until they reached Beta Street, where they found more people milling around. Turning east onto Beta, they walked a short way until they saw a pink building with a sign that said SOCKS. A handbill in the window proved to be the menu.
"I don't know of any other restaurants in town," he said to Harry and Hermione. "I saw this place when I went to the market. Dodgy name, though. 'Spose we should try it?"
