Lavender stirred, turning over to peer blearily at the clock that was ticking gently on the table beside the bed. It was a little before five, which meant she could manage another hour in bed before she had to get up, have breakfast and get ready to start work at seven. Perhaps she could even manage an hour and a half if she was organised when she got out of bed. She could almost feel Ron's arm brush against her back and closed her eyes again. Sadly, Ron was in another room enitrely, the phantom touch simply in her imagination. Wishful thinking. Yes, an hour and a half. It was Christmas Day, after all, so she could spend a little longer in bed. Working on Christmas Day wasn’t particularly appealing, but that was just one of the pitfalls of working at the hospital - some people had to work and Lavender was one of them.

Stretching a little, Lavender rolled onto her back, not particularly enjoying the narrowness of the bed. Merlin. It was nice to wake up and not be shivering from the cold, though. It had taken a bit of courage on both their parts, but after swallowing their pride they'd gone to Molly and asked to stay at the Burrow for a couple of nights. Lavender loved their new house, but with virtually no heating it was impossible to live there and not drive herself absolutely batty. She'd been getting far too stressed, worried about getting ill and that things weren't perfect in the house. Staying at the Burrow wasn't ideal by any stretch of the imagination, but Lavender knew they'd be back in their house as soon as humanly possible. For now, she was sleeping in Ginny's old room while Ron had his old room.

Eyes closed, Lavender listened to silence, missing Ron's deep, steady breathing and the warmth of his body next to hers. It was silly, she thought, but thatwas probably one of the best parts of her day. Waking up beside Ron, the sense of security that it brought. A year ago, it never would have occurred to her that she would be ridiculously (incredibly, brilliantly) in love with him and knowing absolutely that this was the man she wanted to make a future with. They already had a home together, not to mention the growing menagerie of two owls and two cats, so whatever that future brought, Lavender mostly felt grateful that it was going to be with him.

Lavender frowned, grousing at herself. Just try and sleep for a little bit longer. She pulled the covers tighter and tried to clear her mind of thoughts about work and the house and the clock that was still ticking beside the bed. Perhaps if she couldn’t get back to sleep in a few minutes she'd have to put on the lingerie he'd bought for her birthday and sneak into his room to wake Ron up, too - she was sure he wouldn't mind being woken by that particular sight. There would be other presents, too, but they'd have to wait. There was one especially that Lavender hadn’t dared bring to the Burrow. She wasn’t exactly embarrassed by it (although she was a bit), but it was something for just her and Ron - Molly did not need to know about it, quite simply. Yes, Lavender decided, curling up her legs, that would be a good way to start the day; who wouldn‘t want to make love to their boyfriend on Christmas morning?
