Daphne smiled to herself as she slowly stirred the sauce. She had always enjoyed cooking and experimenting with combinations of flavours and spices, but now that she was more often than not cooking for Tony as well, she had found it even more enjoyable. Figuring out what he liked was an ongoing game that she felt pretty certain would continue to be fun for several decades to come. She looked around her, check what else needed to be done. The roastbeef was done, the potatoes were too, the sauce just needed a bit of salt and pepper and under a clean tea towel on the counter she had muffins and a loaf of bread for tomorrow's breakfast.
Just the thought of the years to come made her smile widen. It wasn't that Tony hadn't made her incredibly happy before, but getting the approval of her mother had removed the last of her concerns. The framed photograph of herself and Tony laughing at something that she couldn't even remember was the final proof of it. Daphne hadn't even been aware that it had been taken until her mother had owled it to her, and from the looks of the photograph she suspected that Tony hadn't either. When she had first seen it, she had been struck by how happy they looked, but then she considered the underlying significance of the picture. It was the first time since Father had died that Maman had even touched her camera.
She glanced at the clock on the wall. Tony would probably be there in a matter of minutes now. To her knowledge there weren't any special plans made for tonight, but it was still going to be a special Valentine's Day for her. It was the first time that she got to share it with someone so important to her.
