"Well, here we are," he said. She got off and Ron smiled, taking his broom in hand. "Hope you're hungry. I thought we'd have breakfast here today, like we did last year."

Lavender was careful as she slipped from the broomstick to the pavement, unable to help a grin at the sight of Socks. It was so very sweet that he'd brought her here again, their own little tradition. Before last year, she'd never had a Valentine's Day like it, so it was nice to have something that was theirs.
"I'm hungry," she agreed, stopping him as he took his broom in his hand to give him a quick kiss. "This is lovely, thank you."

"Oh, hello, Mr Wheezy! Miss Lavennah! You is back for eating this rainy morning. You was eating breakfast at Socks a long time ago, wasn't you? Dobby is happy you is coming for breakfast again."
Ron grinned at the house elf. "You've got a great memory, Dobby. Yes, we came for breakfast last year on Valentine's Day too. I'd like a table or booth that's out of the way, if you don't mind. Something quiet."
Dobby nodded and led them to a booth on the far side of the pub.

As Ron got up and slid into the booth next to her, Lavender embraced him, kissing him tenderly. "I love you," she whispered, tears still in her eyes.

When they finally broke the kiss, Ron grinned again. "Well, my mum already knows about this. I told her a few days ago that I planned to propose. But now, I reckon it's about time I finally met your parents."

She grinned back at him. "Okay," she agreed. She knew she'd been awful about introducing Ron to her parents and she still didn't know why she hadn't done it; there was no logical reason why not. "We'll have dinner with them this weekend, yeah?"

His smile seemed to be permanent now, or at least it would last the rest of the day. He'd not told Hermione he was going to do this, so when he saw her at work she would probably put two and two together and figure it out right off. He would owl Harry later in the day with his good news, and Floo-call his mother once he got to work.
There would be plenty of details to work out, like when to get married and so forth. And there was the tiny possibility that Lavender's parents wouldn't like him, or would be unhappy about the engagement, but he put that out of his mind. For the moment, all he needed to know was that he was going to marry Lavender, and he was sure he was the happiest wizard in England, if not the happiest bloke in the world.
