Wouldn't the water become steam as it approached the core?

Ok, sure. But as the steam moves away from the core, displaced by the inrushing, denser liquid water, its going to condense and become liquid water again. So, this will continue until the core cools dramatically. Then proceed with my water theories. If we are still alive (either we're dead from old age or the dramatic effects from a rapidly cooling core.)

But then again, there are extreme pressures associated with miles of water pressing down on itself. I bet, high enough to freeze water. So maybe the combination of heat and pressure would keep the water liquid? I need help from people who have had chemistry or physics more recently than me. Also, some real numbers would probably help here. Anyone volunteering? I'll start sending it to Rose profs.

this pressure also probably greatly affects the volume of water that can fit in the tunnel. Calculus is necessary.
