Fangirl vent

Gah! I'm pissed. They've delayed the release of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince until NEXT SUMMER instead of the planned November 2008 release! There are not many movies I look forward to... I go to about 6 movies a year. Grrrrrrrrrrrr... am not happy and I know there's nothing I can do about it. It's to do with Warner Brothers having ( Read more... )

Hm. I'm actually kind of glad it's not coming out this November. It's HUNTING SEASON in November, and my dear FH has already told me that I was going to see the HP alone, which wouldn't be half as fun as watching it with him (he's a huge fan, too). But yes, it blows something awful to wait that much longer. Why won't they release it at Xmas?

It seems Warner Bros. need a summer blockbuster (relatively family friendly). Here's there official comment:
“Our reasons for shifting ‘Half-Blood Prince’ to summer are twofold: we know the summer season is an ideal window for a family tent pole release, as proven by the success of our last Harry Potter film, which is the second-highest grossing film in the franchise, behind only the first installment. Additionally, like every other studio, we are still feeling the repercussions of the writers’ strike, which impacted the readiness of scripts for other films-changing the competitive landscape for 2009 and offering new windows of opportunity that we wanted to take advantage of. We agreed the best strategy was to move ‘Half-Blood Prince’ to July, where it perfectly fills the gap for a major tent pole release for mid-summer.”

Perhaps it would be a good thing because the quality of the movie might be improved?

At this point, they're not doing any re-shoots.

It actually seems to be a money issue for Warner Brothers. The last HP movie made the second most in the franchise (the first movie did the best) and it was a mid-summer movie for them.

Because of the writer's strike, other movies aren't available for the summer blockbuster season and they like to have one anticipated, strong movie to prop up the summer, so HP gets moved.

Oh, well, they know the fan base will wait.

Same thing.

I don't read the books (because I don't have time mainly), and so was expecting the movie to see what will happen next. But 1 more year to wait? grrrr
