Possible plans for my Fortieth birthday

I know it is a little way away (though not quite as far away as I might wish) October 2013 will see me turning 40. Who knew I'd live this long?

So I am in the process of trying to beg, borrow and swap annual leave dates so I can have between 4 to 6 weeks off over the October. If I am successful I am debating what to do with the time. Maybe start ( Read more... )

As your fellow-40-er (though I turn 40 in November), I'm looking at two moths - my rough plans at this point are:

Fly SYD-LA sometime early October, bringing the fella with me.
Visit friend who has a place in Palm springs for a few days while we get over jet lag!
Possibly stop at Vegas along the way over to Chicago (this is largely due to a desire to see Penn and Teller, but if Cher or Bette Midler are there again, I won't say no. I will say NO very loudly to Celine Dion)
Your Birthday falls on a Tuesday, so I don't know whether you want to squish it to the weekend before or afterwards ... you could always celebrate it twice in two different cities if you have the stamina!
Then across to NYC for the New Yorker's 40th.
Potentially Florida afterwards for disney shenanigans.
Then perhaps London and a bit of UK wandering so that Ben's family can be satisfied.
Mine falls on a Wendesday, I'm thinking of having a pre-birthday in Melbourne and a post-birthday back in Canberra to double the fun.

If I am successful with my leave swap I hope to be off from September 22nd till either October 19th or maybe even November 2nd.

When in October do you think you will be arriving? Meet up in SFO?

I know I will want to be in Chicago for my actual birthday on monday October 14th. Plus it is Jesse's Clinton's birthday on October 13th.

Likely to be early October - potentially as late as the 7th, mostly depending on plane tickets.

Could possibly catch up in SFO for a bit of happy rambling around there for a few days? Back to the very nice guest house just off the Castro...
