This happens, authors are split. But that's one way that kids will go and look in other sections for their favourite authors and maybe find some other interesting books as well. Don't stress too much about that ( ... )

Our council just have it A to Z so we will be rebelling against their system a bit! I might go see how slough library do the fiction. One website I found suggested little images such as a magnifying glass for crime a heart for relationships I like the colour code idea as well although we use colours for levels within our guided reading so for example if i used red for relationships a child might think "I don't want to pick that up or people will think I am thick" (red is level 1). It is really useful to know how librarians do this in the outside world especially as i have had no training in this at all. We now have a reading specialist teacher and it is his idea to change the layout of the library but he is also not trained in cataloguing. It is so good to have a senior member of staff involved though as i have been fighting for 6 months for more suitable shelves for the picture books and more comfortable seating and he has managed to get the head to provisionally agree to this in a week. It is so exciting we are completely rearanging ( ... )

I might put before and after photos of the library up here as we develop it. I am also going to see if i can get some petty cash out to spend on a castle play tent from ikea for the fairytale/people/religon area
