An update. Apparently the mother would only accept palliative care for her children because their disability would shorten their lives. I have the same disability and spent a lot of time thinking I wouldn't live very long. I'm 56, so how long does a life need to be to be worth living?

Those parents had previously said that in other circumstances the children would be left on a hillside to die, and there's some question that their social worker wasn't as strictly child-centred as they might have been. To put it as kindly as possible.

Right, I'd like to think that we had progressed in this particular area. For me this story illustrates more generally how people with disabilities are valued separate from this particular mother. Even though what she did was abhorrent.
