I don't know what kind of headphones you were wearing before, but in my experience, the best are the really large, heavy ones. Besides, those probably damage your ears the least anyway. So, if you ever do get some, those would be the ones to get. Hey, I know the initial investment is a little steep, but sometimes it's worth it!

Sadly, those are the kind I've got. Good noise-cancelling ones, specifically picked out for when I first moved to residence. They lasted almost two years of very frequent service, but I kind of hoped they'd last longer than this...
