Looks to me that about half the Sphere has a swamp dragon following them around. If Sphere-produced swamp dragons are anything like the real thing, then there's a few things that all of you ought to know ( Read more... )

Yep. They're their own worst enemy.

Just how explosive are we talking? Taking out buildings?

Depends on how big the dragon is. They can't take out big buildings, at least. I'd say that their explosions are about twice the size of the dragons themselves, though that's not a theory I recommend putting to the test.

Well, here's one more question, Commander. How do I tell it to stop trailing me before my other lap-sized dragon tears into it in a fit of jealousy?

From the looks of it? You have to keep your other dragon away from it. Swamp dragons don't usually follow people like this, so I figure that bit's the Tree's doing.

I've just been gone a month. He's fretted like an old dog, and now I've gone and found myself another dragon. You can, I hope, see the problem.

It's unexpectedly good to see you again, too, while I'm on the subject.

I can see it, but unless you can make the swamp dragon go away somehow, both of them will end up exploded. I've had to keep Ingvar away from the one following me, but that bloody cat will pick a fight with anything that moves.

You too. How long were you whisked away for there?

[The writing is slow and careful.]

Do these dragons... grow very large normally, sir? To your knowledge, at least.

I'd say the biggest ones are about two feet long. Why, is that how large the one following you around is?

Maybe a bit bigger than that, yes. It's definitely bigger than Bridge's.

Looks to me like every one of them is different. However big they are doesn't matter too much, you just have to be more careful of it exploding.

Is there anything, scent or food item for instance, that acts as a repellant towards them? It would be preferable if I do not need to choose between not going home or risking property damage.

Usually if you just nudge them away, they'll leave you alone. Failing that, spraying them with a bit of water or hitting them with some rolled up paper tends to work--same as a dog, really. These ones are a lot more persistent for some reason, but there's not much that repels them.

You are remarkably knowledgeable about these beasts. And the information, while it unfortunately comes a tad late to prevent wrecked paperwork, is gratefully received.

Oh, I only know as much as I needed to. I'd warrant knowing their explosive habits is common knowledge when you're around them all the time. If you've got a desk job and it's a small dragon, it's best to just try to keep them under the desk.

Under the desk where it can conveniently explode my shoes, perhaps, my good ser Vimes?

I jest, but I imagine I'll do my best to stay out of the office until this is over. Seeing as I have now acquired a second one.

Oh, if it's right beneath you you'll know when to get out of there when your desk starts to shake. It decreases the chance of the entire building falling on you, at any rate.

Probably for the best. I'll just warn you to stay away from other swamp dragons. They cause chain reactions and those tend to go a bit ballistic. Did your new one just pop out of nowhere or did it come flying over?
