Crowley was bored - not unusual - and taking a walk - also not unusual. He was puzzling over the scenery somewhat, trying to put his finger on why it reminded him of the early nineteen-nineties, and kicking the occasional turtle-like creature that got underfoot. He'd done the first one completely by accident, and it had withdrawn into its shell and skated along the floor away from him at such speed, he'd kicked the next one he'd happened upon just to see if the first had been a fluke. It hadn't been.

So his mind was elsewhere when he heard the very distinct sound of a large amount of rustling feathers. Naturally, he turned in that direction to see what it was, and the unexpected sight of a pair of painfully white wings and golden hair was like a punch to the gut. Of course it wasn't Aziraphale - the hair was far too long and the wings far too well-groomed - but for a very painful microsecond, he found himself hoping -

"Hey." One should always take out one's irritation with oneself on others, right? "Your primaries are crooked

Absolutely.

With a scowl, he turned about in the air, shaking loose a few feathers which sailed through the air toward the ground. His expression was one of cold irritation, distant and stern. "Sorry but, what?"

And instantly everything was better.

"Your primaries. Crooked." And he had feathers falling out left and right too, it seemed. So much for 'better groomed than Aziraphale'. Crowley didn't think the angel had ever let his wings get that ruffled.

Kagetsuya almost checked his wings then. Almost. But he didn't like this guy's demeanor, like he knew what he was talking about, like Kagetsuya was dumb or something. Sure, he only used them occasionally, and rarely when on Earth, so maybe he was a little rusty, maybe a little ruffled, but he knew his wings better than some human.

Landing, he walked up to the stranger, then spread his wings out to their full length. "All right, genius, now what are you calling crooked?"

This is the guy Chihaya's been mooning after for months? Granted, Crowley's getting things off on the extreme wrong foot, but still. A little more humor and a little less mortally offended outrage wouldn't hurt. The ominous looming isn't helping much, either.

"The big feathers at the tips there. The primaries. What are they teaching kids in angel school these days, honestly?"

With an ill-concealed huff of annoyance, Kagetsuya drew his wings back in, and folded his arms over his chest. "I know what they are," he said. "What do you know about it, Earthian? What makes you think that I'm an angel?"

"Ignoring the fact that the wings are a dead giveaway, talking to Chihaya for any length of time sometimes sheds light on a number of interesting things. That aside, though, what makes you think that I'm an earthian?" That weird word again. It was probably just because he'd got used to the term 'human' and its various incarnations that the word Chihaya and his friend used sounded so odd.

"You...know Chihaya?" He looked down, his face momentarily unmasked by the pain and love that name wrought on his heart. But he shook it off, for the most part, resolving not to go down that avenue of conversation and addressing the stranger's question instead. "Most of the people on this ship that I've encountered are some sort of earthian. Unless their appearance suggests otherwise, of course."

"Yeah, I know Chihaya." Crowley didn't miss the change in Kagetsuya's expression, though he seemed to make an effort to hide it. What was going on between the two, anyway? It wasn't like Crowley act like someone's nosy busybody aunt, but it would take someone a lot more cold-hearted than he to not notice Chihaya moping around even worse than before. Considering how much he had been hoping and yearning for Kagetsuya to return to the Thor, his behavior now was, to put it lightly, quite odd.

"How do you know him?" Crowley knew perfectly well, but he was curious to hear what Kagetsuya had to say on the matter.
