Like Dick could forget a date like this. He's a stupid, insensitive brat when he wanted to, but that didn't mean he didn't know better.

So you should probably expect the small boy, standing behind you quietly. He's dressed nice and formal for the occasion, with his hair slicked back neatly. He doesn't say anything though, letting Bruce have his moment of silence. It's not like Dick has been in an awfully good mood as of late with the whole perfume fiasco. So he can understand the loss of parents even more then usual this time. Not that he doesn't miss them any less usually.

Still, he'll wait until Bruce wants to speak before saying anything.

He bounces on the balls of his feet impatiently. He's getting antsy, but he doesn't want to be pushy or anything. "Does it bother you that I was nine when it happened?" He sounds a little nervous. The last thing he wants is Bruce to feel like it was bad of him to recruit him at this age. Or that he thinks it was a mistake in general. And maybe he just wants Bruce to be proud of him that he's been working hard for the last four years.

He answers immediately, without looking at him. "Yes."

It's not for the reasons that Dick thinks, not entirely. Yes, it troubled him that he'd allow him to fight at that age, but what was really getting to him was the fact that it had happened in the first place- another nine year old losing their parents and seeking vengeance for it. He supposed he couldn't blame his other self, not with the parallels.

He bites his bottom lip before looking at his feet absentmindedly.

He wants to say something, but he isn't sure what. How do you respond to that? What is he supposed to say about it? Saying sorry seemed like a stupid thing to say. It's not like he can suddenly go back in time and be that carny kid who just did flips for a living.

He realizes how this sounds immediately, though he doesn't move to acknowledge it just yet. "It's not you that bothers me."

That's as close as he can get right now- he's not going to criticize his other self, not yet, even though he probably deserves it- Robin isn't going to get sucked into this bizarre form of self-hatred. Not if he can help it.

"Oh. I guess that's...good?" He sounds a little more relieved at that, although he isn't sure what's bothering Bruce about this then. And of course being him, he's curious about it. But he's not going to ask since this is old man Bruce who probably has even more secrets then normal aged Bruce.

Bruce, you're just really complicated. Stop that.
