[This sounds like it's getting into dangerous territory, and John doesn't want to force anyone to reveal any secrets.]
Maybe this isn't the time or place. You've given me a way to contact you if I need to, and you know how to contact me if there's something you think I should know.
TL;DR SORRY.thinkin_arbysSeptember 4 2011, 04:13:46 UTC
There is a time or place better than this to propose a contribution? You may have been looking for simple physicians, but that isn't sufficient for what you've said is happening.
[She takes a deep breath; she knows Ezio's going to kill her for this. For these several months, she's been gathering information, bending a couple of ears, and trying to find a place to fit in where she can protect her interests completely. This is it.]
I'll repeat: You're going to need me if anything happens. If you aren't going to act on the knowledge that you're leaving yourself vulnerable to simple attacks, what service do you do the refugees? The only issue here is to weigh whether or not you think they know of my ability. And, to that end... If they know about me, they know about all of us, everything we can do.
[A brief pause. She wants this. She wants to do this. She has the tools and the skills to do it. It's part of her soul, healing and destroying, abiding by the rigid code she's set out for herself.

Some of us aren't the kind of people you can easily place in a single box. Some of us got skills or abilities that might useless for general applications but will be very useful for specific actions or needs. You can't dismiss the help offered until it is convenient for you. You've also need to work it into your plans just like everything else we're bringing to this meeting.
[ Sho agrees with her so much, if his words didn't say so. He wasn't like the Preventers or the other people who could work with the police and the full knowledge of others. His business was among people that might actually want to kill them. He was a killer and a thief and he wasn't about to change that part of him if it could prove useful in the long run. ]

[John just raises an eyebrow as she starts to lecture him. When she finishes, another stranger steps in. John listens to them both, but the facade of the affable doctor has started to slip just a bit. He decides to address "Maria" first.]
All right, you've had your say. Here's the way I see it. You contacted me in complete secrecy and offered your help with very restrictive conditions. You wouldn't provide details unless I agreed to take you sight unseen. Then you show up here and tell me that was all a lie. Now you tell me another story, and you still have conditions.
I don't know you, I don't know what you can do, and while I won't argue your need to protect yourself, that doesn't exactly make me want to trust you. I have the safety of my patients to consider. If you're in that much danger that this amount of secrecy is necessary, then having you in the clinic could be a greater risk than the Purists for all I know.

[She straightens her shoulders, palming the metal canister.]
I said I would explain, and you said it was not the time. Make up your mind.
To answer you: I have many identities, and all of them are to protect myself if someone with my abilities comes on board. I will be the only person who can fight them. There are no lies; every identity I claim is true. I am not a liar, doctor, and I will not stand for being accused of this. Whatever you may think, a half-truth is not a lie. I am only offering again in this place because my allies trust this group, and I will put my faith in them.
[She takes a few more steps toward him.] The danger from the Purists only exists if I let myself--as I am on the manifest--be seen entering or leaving the premises. I have a way around this, but I could not trust to let you know of it. The fact that none of you save my friends can recognize me is proof enough of my ability to disguise myself

So have I, but it wasn't in a place where people wore uniforms or had orders or were trained. You've been in a war, you should have a good feel for telling good from bad. I know I can.
[ She was going to show it off, wasn't she? Sho knew a little about what she had on her just because of her using it on him a while back. And she had asked him to keep it secret just like he has kept a number of other things about her secret. But if a knife was what she wanted... ]
Hey.
[ He flipped out a slender switchblade from inside his sleeve into his hand. He kept it sharp and well cared for so it wouldn't tear on the skin and cause pain before it actually hit something lethal. This he casually hands over. ]
[John stands his ground as she advances on him. Deception, half-truth, call it what you will, at this point he isn't sure he can believe anything she says.]
For the record, saying you have a secret way in that you won't tell me about and bragging that you can kill me isn't the way to impress me. And it doesn't make me any more inclined to trust you.
[Apparently she's determined to give a demonstration. John steps back, unsure what to expect.]
[She takes the blade from Sho.] The reason I say I can kill you is to show you that I won't. I'm going to show you as much as I can.
[The blade is balanced in one hand; she transfers the metal canister back to her pocket for the moment and rolls up her sleeve.] However, I refuse to injure anyone who has broken no laws. As such, excuse my not showing that portion of my ability. The nature of this won't allow me to attack myself.
[She takes a deep breath, then slices quickly and deeply into her arm. The knife is rapidly passed back to Sho--with an apology--and she produces the canister again. It is hardly five seconds between cut and mend, but other than pointing that strange canister at her wound, nothing seems to have compelled it to close.
Yet there it is, her skin perfectly intact.]
I reattached a man's hands with this.
[She points the canister at her fingers. What the bystanders cannot see is the spray that comes out of the canister--the essence of her Stand. Part of her soul, her spirit, it simply will not let her attack

[Ezio has been watching the events unfold and suffice to say, he is not pleased with any of those involved in this discussion.
So he interjects here with a very serious, somber tone. He throws Guistina a look before continuing. Yes, he is indeed going to kill her.]
I have seen what she can do and she is capable of more than what she has shown. You cannot deny her want of secrecy for her abilities are unique. If our enemies were to find that we have someone such as her, it could mean certain disaster for us and our allies. I understand that you are concerned, doctore, but she is of use to you. We need someone who can heal our wounds quickly and be able to protect the innocent as well as the protectors.
You can dislike her all you wish, but she is a woman to trust. Grant her the secrecy she seeks and she will do what is necessary to heal and save lives.
[And here he hopes that somehow, someone will move to an understanding and not regret having put his trust in her so boldly.]
[Her Stand is quickly lowered, hidden by her hands as she watches Ezio intently. She knows that look--she's seen it just a few times before--and she knows she's in for a dressing-down of sorts the moment they're done here.
Thing is, she doesn't care. It's about time she makes a contribution, and she thinks this boldly even as her cheeks turn a light shade of pink. Her heart beats loudly in her chest; this has gone far, even for her, even for the most desperate moments of her life. It can't be helped. She doesn't know any other way to make her point and maintain that fierce distance she so desires.
More than anything, though, she's shocked and honored at Ezio's words. Her eyes practically light up, because this is truly unexpected. She speaks directly to him in Italian, although she knows it will be translated for everyone else.]
You don't need to do this. They can bury themselves if they like.
[The demonstration is certainly impressive. The hospital on board could do the same, of course. They can apparently bring people back from the dead if they want to. But the clinic doesn't have access to that kind of equipment and can't depend on the hosptial to back them up. If it wasn't for all the threats and secrecy and warnings of danger surrounding her help, he would have accepted long before this
( ... )
[With a quiet scoff, she glances back to Watson, then back at Ezio, then stashes her Stand and turns to leave.]
You speak as if you know what danger is, doctor. I can assure you that you do not know any such thing, if you would deny me my request. [She wants to explain that if anyone from her world came here and didn't like her, dozens of people could die before anyone figured out what was going on. She would be the only one to stop them.
But it's futile. She knows this. She ought to just walk away.]
The rest of you can consider it. I will not touch the clinic without leave to do so.
[And now all she can think is that by panicking, by truly believing herself to be threatened well in advance of a threat--an overly cautious tactic--she's back at square one.
Shaking her head, she tugs the hood of the jacket back over her brow and heads for the door.]
[Their behaviors are expected, but they are not any less irritating. Ezio goes after her quickly and grabs her hard by the shoulder. He drops the volume of his voice to a whisper, a very hard, almost growling whisper.]
If they bury themselves, we go with them. You and I have much to discuss.
[He lets go of her and follows the doctor instead. There is much need of damage control, as the refugees here so put it.]
[She responds only with a clear but non-vulgar dismissive gesture before shoving his hand away. Discuss? More like get herself chewed out. And she doesn't even care at this point.]
The sources for most of the medication is a serious problem- there's no sense in giving them funding. The trouble is just how much of the industry is connected in some way or another to GalaTrex. I've only briefly looked into the politics involved, but avoiding them completely could get tricky.
