It was strange to be walking about like this, acting as if nothing great had happened in the past few days. With a calm and controlled expression on his face, Lelouch marched towards the designated area as if it were just another chess match. Only, matters were certainly different now. This place, the space station floating somewhere in space -- Lelouch hadn't even begun to look into the what and how behind that-- was no Tokyo Settlement. It wasn't even the same planet. And he was utterly alone. Just days ago, he was informed, after inexplicably ending up in some shuttle of sorts and faced with a number of aliens obsessed with bureaucratic paperwork, that his planet had been destroyed. Everything. Everyone. The Student Council. Ashford Academy. Britannia. Area Eleven. Rolo. Gone in an improbable blink of an eye.
He gripped the suitcase he had in one hand tighter, reliving the disbelief that realization brought him again for a moment. And then it was gone, and he was standing in the middle of the Recreation Area with several passer-bys giving him a curious look. Not concern.
Lelouch smiled despite the growing disgust he felt at being helpless and alone-- the only survivor to his world's destruction. Ironic, how that worked; that a mere student like him would survive apocalypse above all those who claimed to wield all the power of the world in Britannia. That brought him a little comfort, though not much. In the end, his brother could not be by his side.
When he arrived to the designated area, he hid his insecurities, all those pitch black thoughts towards the world's end and Rolo, under a cheerful mask. "This is my chess set," he told Harry as he sat down and opened his suitcase to showcase his prized set. They were expensive too, and he'd picked them with the mind that he'd be going up against the best of the best in the underground chess gambling world. He wasn't so spiteful, after all, and tasteless to beat them with a simple magnetic chess board. And he'd wanted them to take him on seriously, not underestimate him further for being just a mere student.
"Please take good care of it as you do your magic, Harry. I don't know when I'll be able to afford a new one."
