[the expression he sets on Riku then is one of complete flat refusal, a face that clearly states the searchlights are all trained right on him and won't be moving off anytime soon]

[maybe it's time to retreat back into the woods and try again later-- or maybe it's too late, there's a sniper on the roof]

[there's a bit of dissipation at that, and he leans the small of his back into the couch's arm, considering]

...Because you don't shove me back out the door.

[insights aren't going to fall on deaf ears, growls are going to be ignored by the animal staking out new territory, no matter what gun or light the resident law points]

And neither do they.

[it takes a second. Renji's face contorts first in perplexment, then in confusion, held as he turns his gaze to assure himself of the focus of the other's gesture]

[then, for a moment, his face just goes blank]

[he stays like that, eyes empty of much of anything, staring at the sheath of his zanpakutou for a long time - at least, it feels long. it feels to him like a goddamned eternity]

[slowly, very slowly, he rises himself to his feet, walks the distance across the small room and disappears into the hall. it's times like these he wishes he had a door, a real solid door not wired into anything, not part of a mainframe, something he could slam when the moment called

[his mouth's a bit agape in a question that goes unasked as the other man walks off -- ]

[and the sounds do little more than make his head slowly]

[like the inquisitive cocking of a dog]

[he doesn't follow or try to usher the man out, just stares inquisitively towards that bedroom and wonder what kind of mess Katsura's going to have to clean up]

[another few seconds and a small item flies out through the bedroom door with impressive speed]

[hits the wall]

[and squeaks]

[.... nnnnnot the effect he was going for thanks a bunch Mareep plushie but that's okay. Renji himself follows after it not so long later, standing in himself in the doorway and just]
