Harper's feeling restless. The last week has just been a solid slab of exhaustion, between the poisoning on Monday, the midweek fighting in the dining room, Rex actually letting him talk to him, and the spree of murders and explosions that had rounded everything off? This week has sucked
He's wandering idly out on deck, when he spots a figure leaning over the guard rail. He tenses for a moment, because god knows a suicide attempt to complete the proceedings would just be typical right now. The figure doesn't look like he's preparing to jump though, so Harper decides to approach whoever it is.
"Hey! You all right?" He calls, a little lamely, as he approaches the barrier the figure's leaning against.
Craaaap. Way to interrupt his brooding. Rex looks over his shoulder at that familiar voice, almost getting a "deer in the headlights" look, but then he stands up straight and begins to walk away, waving a dismissive hand.
"I'm fine." What's Arthur doing right now? Ah, yes. Death Toll. "Just needed to get out of the infirmary for a bit."
The brief look of panic on Arthur's face throws him. Enough to let a tiny bit of either concern or suspicion creep into the back of his mind. Stepping around the other man, he walks alongside him, "They actually let you out in your condition? Jeeze, I'm amazed you can even walk..."
Amazed that he doesn't appear to be in any pain at all, more like, but everyone heals differently, so he doesn't say anything yet.
Okay, everything else that was scanning as majorly wrong about this aside? There was no way that Arthur on death toll would start power walking, even to get away from him. Harper reaches out to grab his inmate by the arm, and takes a gamble,
"Bullshit." Harper snatches his inmates arm again, and jerks the younger man towards him, reaching forward to push back his hood and get a good look at him. He's not angry, but he's sure as hell worried about the younger man.
It's perfect, it's way too perfect. "Where's your ventilator?"
Harper levels his gaze towards Rex cautiously, "And you're sure you've got 24 hours of this?" He shouldn't be so freaked, but if Rex starts wheezing right now... well, Harper wants him to be okay, that's all. He eases his grip off Rex's arm.
"Not a full 24. I'm not certain. I know I have more than five, at the very least. I won't be far from my ventilator after that."
Rex starts to walk away, not trying to escape Harper, but to go back to the railing. "There are plenty of alternative remedies available on the Barge. I'm sure you saw Mozenrath's offerings."
"Yeah, I saw them, but I know you're not stupid enough to have actually taken him up on any of them." Harper replied, walking beside his inmate, "And I know you're not stupid enough to not to know that you don't get five hour bursts of health and beauty bottled without there being some sort of catch."
"Maybe I was desperate." He shakes his head. "It's not 'beauty' that I have any interest in. I just didn't want to be helpless without the ventilator."
"Rex, I know you. I can't imagine any level of desperation that'd make you okay with giving him the satisfaction of you asking for help, even if you were dumb enough to think you could get a good deal out of it." Harper keeps his eyes fixed on Rex, shaking his head, "That's not the point, Rex. Tell me what did this?"
Damn, maybe it was better when Harper ignored him. It was certainly easier to get away with things. He stares at Harper. "I told you. I'm no stranger to doing stupid things on the Barge."
"And I told you that I'm done only being your warden when you need to get away with something." Harper replied, "Now would you quit trying to distract me and tell me what's going on?"

And he's picking up his pace. GO AWAY, HARPER.

"Rex. What happened to you?"
Reply
"Nothing. An experiment, the effects of which should wear off within 24 hours."

"My room. I wanted to enjoy being free from it, for once."

"How'd this happen?"
