I really hate to say this after such an exciting port, but I'm... bored. Call it a side-effect of having no projects to fill my time. Or an inevitable response to a return to the status quo.

[Pause.]

So. In the spirit of change and self discovery and whatever else the Admiral is trying to push, I'm thinking about opening myself up to new ( Read more... )

Self-discovery through other people's hobbies. Hm.

Perhaps this was aimed at the veterans, but I'm sure I don't know what wouldn't be novel for you.

I hear it's customary to ask people about their hobbies and determine if they seem interesting enough to try.

Have you ever played Magic: The Gathering?

No. I never participated in many... group activities.

Sure. [Pause.] How many people are supposed to play?

[Don't say collect superweapons.]

I learn languages and study Etymology.

I'll be honest, I didn't learn any languages beyond what was required for my foreign language credit.

[Pauuuse.]

How many are you fluent in?

I haven't counted in a very long time. [Counting.... counting.... counting....]

On a rudimentary level over a hundred. Forty some fluently. Being that a lot have similarities eventually you can pick up a pattern.

[Also not saying collect superweapons.]

Back in my Academy days I used to do recreational calculus or write computer programs. [Narvin's student hobbies were a lot like Rex's student hobbies.]

That sounds familiar. To be honest, I still find myself doing that here.

It's an amusing way to pass time. [FOR NERDS] Although I suppose it doesn't qualify as something new.

Ah, but you can always find something new in recreational programming.

I'm working on a collective information project if you want to help with that!

stopthat_destro July 25 2011, 03:56:15 UTC
What topics are you collecting information on?

Reply

strangehstorian July 25 2011, 04:12:06 UTC
Well, the library has encyclopedias, but not every world has one, and there isn't a unified encyclopedia that accounts for all of the worlds the people here would know about. Just general information about where everyone comes from; the names of the countries on their world, the technologies and different sentient races... Naturally, the project is ambitious, but it's really just a hobby.

I wouldn't mind lending a hand. The technology section would be fascinating.
