Fuck.

I haven't been worried about that for a long time.

And don't apologize to me, Rex. [SO HARD NOT TO SAY 'I TOLD YOU SO.'] It had to be done.

[SO GRACIOUS OF YOU, IAGO.]

No, it was all handled badly.

Anyway. How's your hand?

But it is finished. And that's all anyone can ask for.

It hurts. But the swelling is better. Is there nothing stronger I can have?

Mmhm.

How badly does it hurt? I don't know if you need anything stronger. [YOU BABY.]

Was it only for her that you wanted to find a cure?

I don't believe finding her would have worked anyway at that point, Rex. You had chosen Iago and most women don't recover from that manner of rejection. [He never found out about that whole "I want to be with one person now and the other later" thing.]

But you shouldn't be healing for one person, anyway. Nowhere within the Hippocratic oath is the words, "because I cared for her".

Finding her was the plan before she came back. [Pause.] And I didn't choose Iago. I just chose to let our relationship survive or fail on its own terms. I thought that was, I don't know, the only fair and logical solution.

I never took the Hippocratic Oath. And considering everyone else in her world is a crazed cannibal, likely with a degenerative condition in the brain, a true cure would've been impossible. The idea was to protect them, not save the world for one woman.

I would like to see you get to a point that you could take it one day. I still believe that whoever is still alive there is worth saving.

I suppose that's better then, so long as you never told her that you still cared for her beyond friendship when she returned. I did note that you didn't seem to have the difficulties you had before.

I'm not that kind of doctor, Doctor.

I told her that I loved her. But I did try to be... friends.

Because getting wrapped up is supposed to feel good and be rewarding and all that other crap they like to make tv shows and movies out of. [Moderately bitter :c]

...Sorry she left. [Not really, but. Sorry for Rex, at least.]

[He laughs. It's a bitter party up in here!] It's one of the most persistent myths, isn't it.

Thank you. It was probably for the best.

I always though there had to be some element of truth to it, because it can't all just be being disappointed in people when they don't do what you expect or hope for, but I'm starting to think it's just people being really, really hopeful.
