[Rex sounds tired, because blahblah crappy month, recovering etc.] When I was a kid, I used to try to watch a horror movie each week of October to get ready for Halloween. Monster movies, a few slashers sometimes. As I got older, I preferred horror movies with a scientific angle. Cronenberg's, especially ( Read more... )

[He finds this too awkward to respond to. So he won't. But he's cringing somewhere.]

[Note to self. No magic tricks with snakes for a little while. He'll feel awkward.]

See you and raise you, Rex.

[How did Una get hold of a transmissible copy of Ken Russell's 1988 schlock masterpiece The Lair of the White Worm? Don't ask. Or blame the Admiral. But here it is. And in that trailer there? Yes, that is Peter Capaldi, the actor behind Malcolm Tucker, getting his leg chomped on by the sexy snake lady at 0:59 and appearing at various other points in the trailer with stupid hair and glasses. Feel free to be confused. For the curious: yes, it's available on Amazon streaming, among other things]

[BOO I can't watch the trailer, BUT I ASSUME THIS IS A MOVIE REX WOULD LIKE.]

That's... amazing! I never saw that before.

[Pauuuse.]

But that actor looks a lot like...

[It is unspeakably trashy. There are boobs and giant snake skulls and bagpipes and virgin sacrifices and I don't even know what else. Rex might be torn between fascination and repulsion.]

It's certainly something. [So amused.]

Which actor?

[We'll go with that! He's fascinatedly repulsed. So he can't stop watching. Also, if it has body horror, he'll love it, since that's his faaaavorite subgenre because he's creepy.]

The one who, ah-- looks like a former inmate.

For some reason, it never found a wider audience. [WHO KNEW.]

I'm sure it has a niche market. [People who love snakes.]

Mmhm. For all its faults, the film did an excellent job of depicting the cobra's lethal beauty. In all her forms.

I love The Fly.

[Yes, she's talking to you, Rex. Because she kind of likes Cronenberg too, okay? Guilty pleasure.]

[STOP MAKING HIM HATE YOU LESS.]

That's my favorite movie.

[Score.]

Yeah? Jeff Goldblum is amazing. I mean, it's almost operatic in its overtones about aging and the disintegration of the human body.

And the struggle between the monster and the human within a man who has become more than both. His desperation to hold onto those last threads of humanity through love... It's a very beautiful story. [Rex might relate to it too much.]
