music!huzzah & old man river

springtime = musictime = floods?

Lots of shows this past month. Music!huzzah kicked off with...

Southern Culture on the Skids for some rockabilly & surf rock goodness. If you ever get a chance to see them, I say go for it! I've only ever seen them in small venues & audience participation is encouraged. What other band can you dance onstage with while fried chicken is thrown to the audience? NONE.

Next up was the Memphis in May Beale Street MusicFest.
For those not familiar, Memphis in May International Festival is a month long series of events and each year a different country is honored. This year was Belgium.
It kicks off with the 3 day Beale Street Music Fest.
Then International week has events around the city that are dedicated to the honored country.
Next is the World Championship BBQ Cooking Contest. It's a pretty big deal. You may have heard of it.
And the festivities close with the Sunset Symphony.
This was the first year (I think) that the BBQ contest wasn't held downtown due to something else you may have heard about recently: HISTORIC FLOODING of the Mississippi. The grounds were basically RIVER.

(this is not the location- but not far away)

So... Back to music fest, which I was VERY excited for this year because I have been jonesing to see Mumford & Sons... and look! Here they are!

And they were wonderful. I went home very happy that night.
Also got to see CAKE... again! Oh, John McCrea, how I love your dry wit and unique vocal stylings. (cue shitty picture)

Also saw Jerry Lee Lewis, Egypt Central, and a bit of Stone Temple Pilots. Heard MGMT (would not attempt to punch through the SEA of PEOPLE). I missed The Flaming Lips because, again, too many people. This causes me regret.

Finally this past Friday we celebrated 11 years of wedded-ness by going to see PRIMUS! It's true love, people.

i <3 GIANT inflatable astronauts... and les claypool.

OH... I also went to Spamalot! Had never seen it. It was great fun. I bought a plush killer rabbit with very pointy teeth. He lives on my desk @ work now.

I am tired now. And poor.
