True, as far as someone just barging in and cleaning... but then again, she said she was going to be the new cleaning lady and they're all just like "enh, whatever"... they don't actually seem to mind her being there until she actually starts cleaning the place up. And it didn't seem like Michael and Calcifer were worrying about her misplacing magical things... (Calcifer especially is guilty here, since he's the one that pretty much said "oh hey, I want you to stick around for a month or so and get me out of this bargain, and we'll need an excuse for ya!")
And yeah, the green slime scene is funny, but it just doesn't speak very well of Howl!
Isn't it pretty stereotypical for guys to get peeved when someone wants to clean up their room? And when it's an (apparent) old lady doing it it probably just adds to the "unwanted" mothering feel. And the "did you touch my stuff?" "no, i didn't touch anything" thing seems pretty stereotypical as well. The parent means they don't think they messed anything up, they just cleaned, and the kid/teen is convinced they did something wrong. Of course in this case Howl is being the teen, and since we're dealing with magic it _was_ actually important that she moved stuff around. Well, that and that he apparently can't pay attention to what he's doing since it seems like everything was labeled anyways?
Sophie had a thought at some point how now that she was old it felt like she could say anything she wanted and not worry about what others think about it, ie she's become the typical loudly outspoken old person.

I agree with you about the bedroom bit though.
