Trickling the dwarves in was good, and I agree with desdenova, I could see Gandalf using that same sort of gentle introduction to not throw our hobbit into shock.

OMG. Beorn = Bjorn, which is Swedish for "bear".

And Gollum is named for the sound he makes, and Smaug certainly wreaks smoke & fog on Laketown, and I should stop there before I ask what a bilbo is.

Awwww. I looked in the vain hope that the British pronounce "smog" funny, but no. It's almost as bad as finding out it's not pronounced "Tolk-i-en".
