Right some different art again. This time for
paperlegends, the Merlin BigBang.
The fic I illustrated is called Where Legends Lie by
rebbeile and it's sort of a Lost in Austen-ish take on the show. Go and read the whole thing
here, it's definitely worth it.
So, yes, thx,
rebbeile, for writing such great fic for me to illustrate and bearing with me in my long absences and occasional last minute-ness and not having me replaced by clearly more qualified people. And thanks as well to
the_muppet for her long hard work to get all of this running so smoothly.
click for full size The cover definitely took me the longest, well, Merlin did, as he's composed of three stock-pics and only his head is really Merlin, and it includes a heavy dose of imagination in putting it all together.
(Also, you wouldn't believe how long it took me to google the perfect armchair.)
In the pic you have Merlin cradling his favourite book, which glows with *powerful magic* and behind that you have a ghostly Arthur, which only exists in his imagination at first.
I'm not sure how to explain him being faceless, perhaps because he wasn't fully true to himself in his days in Ealdor, but really I just preferred it that way and giving him eyes would have thrown off the balance a bit.
This is a really cute scene in the fic, well apart from all the fighting. But I loved this moment, and mentioning Merlin's ears is always a good thing.
clickie Ok, this is really the pivotal moment in the fic so I only linked it. Again some heavy imagination into composing this figure. It's Uther carrying Arthur in 1x13 and then Merlin holding on to Gaius, who was sitting next to him, and not lying across his lap. Also, don't pay attention to the lower hand, it's Uther's glove and thus looks a bit.. unwieldy.
