Unfortunately, this sort of illogic is almost pandemic with politicians everywhere. The Europeans, or at least the British, are now talking about "knife control" as their virtual ban on guns hasn't stemmed the tide of violent crime and perps have switched from guns to knives.
All I want for Christmas is a nice, broad ruling from the US Supreme Court regarding the 2nd Amendment.
Just for context, he's referring to the guns because there has been an increase in gun violence here over the past few years. Much of this violence has been perpetrated by gangs using illegal handguns smuggled in from the USA. That's where he's coming from.
As for the stabbing, it actually took place in a laneway near the high school, not in the school itself. Somantics, I know, but clarification can be important.
Also, Inferiority Complex? Stormy, Stormy, Stormy. We are the land of the Licks burger. We are hardly inferior! ;)
Well, I can see where he's coming from on that, but it's funny that he's tying the two things together when the mode of violence is far different. My thought is that he's aiming for the wrong enforcement target, as even with a ban, you'd still have a major smuggling problem. I'm one of those Evil People Who Like Guns, so I'll reserve my comments otherwise. *grin*

Other than your taxes and the general wierdness of your health system, I rather like Canada. What I'm referring to, from an American perspective, is that we're a favorite strawman and punching bag by Canadian politicians, who seem to want to Really Not Be The US. But then go implement something that we've got over here, but They Did It The Canadian Way. *shrugs* Hard to explain

Canadians don't have to have passports to head over here in 2008, do they?
