'How's My Driving?' and 'Characterisation'

Hmmm. So I thought I'd put a little bit here about the way I play Cloud, just to explain some of his mannerisms.

Before Crisis Core was just a twinkle in Nomura's eye, there was Yubinbasya, a doujinshi circle focused mainly around Zack and Cloud. Really liked the stories and doujin, which was set in primarily pre-game times. Lots of interesting characterisation, pretty drawings and yes, I'll say it, shounen-ai.
Yubin's version of trooper!Cloud I really loved; he was this cynical little brat who spent a lot of time thinking too hard and pushing away close ones, but beneath he was still sensitive and awkward, and deeply insecure. To me, this really aptly reflected his upbringing, and to a lesser extent, the kind of attitude he'd have when he was older.

Then there's the Cloud in Crisis Core; shy, light-hearted, friendly and kinda cute. A bit of a weakling, and prone to moments of aaaangst, but generally well adjusted. I liked this Cloud, too, but to me he seemed a little too well-adjusted and clueless. It's a good example of how time and events can change someone completely, but it still felt like something was missing.

Lastly, the Cloud of Jigoku was spirited away to the apartments right after Sephiroth's little free-for-all in Nibelheim, so there's a lot of trauma and angst right there. Basically, some serious Post Traumatic Stress.
I thought it would be beneficial for a horror-based game to have an awful memory like that attached. Also, it was a time that we never got to see in the game due to being kind of sort of brain-dead very soon after.

So in conclusion, the Cloud I play is kind of a mush of the Yubinbasya and Crisis Core portrayals, with some lovely PTSD thrown on top.
