For all of you creative people- how do you decide which websites to keep accounts on and upload your work to?  Here are the bunch that I could think of in 5 secs ( Read more... )

Good question! I have a lot of accounts and I usually end up loosing track of them because it's so hard to stay active in all of them..

Glad I'm not the only one! There's a helpful comment below yours that you might wanna check out.
I think LJ is enough for me at the moment... I might get a tumblr but then that'll be another couple of hours wasted every day.

For all art I use deviantArt as the host site. I then embed/link the art from there onto my LJ/DW and crosspost the journal entry to various communities.
If I like the piece enough, I will pimp it on twitter. Though everyone who follows me already follow me on LJ, so it really doesn't add any new viewers XD
I don't have a tumblr but every once in a while my art will get recced on a fanart blog. So far everyone has been really good about it and link/credit from my dA (apparently there's a 'share' option on dA that will post and credit the art to other blogging sites, all in one click).

I have a love/hate with AO3. Love it for fic. Hate it for art, mainly because AO3 isn't formatted for hosting visuals yet. I don't mind if my art is embedded in stories that's I've collaborated on. I just don't do stand alone entries.
Though one down side of AO3 is their connection to OTW, and their fanart image policy is pretty terrible.

Thanks for breaking it all down- very helpful. I don't really want to mess with deviantArt because of some whack stuff I heard years ago about their terms of use. Plus, I'm plain lazy about maintaining accounts. What's up with the OTW's fanart policy, if you wouldn't mind explaining?

Yeah, dA has a very strict policy on porn images. But even then you can get around it by 'storing' art so it's not public ( ... )

Ooo thanks for all the info! Yea I'd feel kinda weird about losing control of being able to take down my stuff. Then again, I already assume that anything I post on the internet will be out there forever. Yet another reason to make sure my "real" identity and the fannish one never intersect.

I use DeviantArt as my main art hosting site because of its sharing features that I can use for both my Tumblr and my Livejournal. Plus it saves the hassle of posting all my art to more than one site each and every time.
