Well, today I called Taco Bell to let them know that I couldn't work a shift tomorrow (I called on Saturday too) and I was told they would call me back when they decided what the consequences would be. fighting it legally will get you nowhere fast and just cost you time, effort, and money that you probably don't have. Massachusetts has tricky laws when it comes to employment and dismissal. Basically it's employment-at-will for the employer AND the employee. Just as you can walk out at any time, they can give you the boot at any time...and without reason (unless of course there is a signed contract involved...but that's rare these days).

I wouldn't bother gong to court over it... I am contemplating making sure it says I quit on paper, rather than terminated. Not that I am planning on using them as a reference....
