OH HEY I FUCKING LOVE THIS GODDAMN POST!!!! Oh god, yes yes yes. I am OBSESSED with "We are hard on each other" for Katniss/Peeta, I have been for ages I even super old fanmix for them after it. FACT OR WEAPON, I think about that line with them all of the time, it's so appropriate. Peeta's "love" for Katniss is a fact for the entire series but also become a weapon for him to use against The Capitol for his own reasons before/during the games and then it turns into an even bigger weapon when they get out. It's a weapon day one for Katniss, always, whether she wants it to be or not and the fact part is blurry until I'd say mid-Catching Fire. and the series LITERALLY ends on that question. You love me, real or not real? / fact or weapon and by then it's just a fact, no one is using it against them, there are not string attached, it's just a fact/ I tell him "real" OBSESSED WITH THAT.

ALSO YOU LINKED THAT FIC WHICH IS MY LIFE/ALL I NEED.

I am legit CONSUMED with thoughts about these kids - I keep making really weird noises and flailing about BRAID TOUCHING! (I'm also developing a weird JHutch situation which is entangled with Peeta feelings so every time he shows up on my dash I want to puke rainbows!)

Having watched the movie and reread the first two books I AM SO IN LOVE WITH PEETA. ALL THE FEELINGS! And UGH YES! at what you're saying about Peeta/Katniss ending with fact. (There's a lot I hate about Mockingjay and Peeta's story is THE WORST but the story viewed through this lens means I can just pick and choose which bits to accept! Let's all take a moment to thank God for Atwood)

I sat up until 1.30am last night reading that fic and clawing at my face because I didn't know what else to do with my hands! See also - this.

YOU SHUT YOUR DAMN MOUTH WITH THIS POST, WHAT EVEN IS THIS, I MAY HAVE TO REACH THROUGH THE SCREEN AND SMACK YOU A LITTLE, IT'S SO GOOD. I want to wrap myself up in all these words and fall asleep in the woods except then I would probably be shot by the Capitol patrols, BUT STILL. Like, I just saw the movie again this afternoon and I'm legit mad at myself that I didn't read this beforehand!

animals ran through us, our hands/blessed and killed according to our/wisdom, death/made real blood come out

OBSESSED with this. And how it can be read as "our hands, blessed and killed, according to our wisdom: death," as in "we were blessed and therefore killed, because our wisdom is Death and that's what Death teaches us," which coupled with the end of the movie - LITERALLY CROWNED IN LAURELS WHICH ARE ALSO MADE OF METAL, LIKE WEAPONS - basically makes me want to scream and run into walls and stuff. And and and, okay, I've been fixated over the "Abraham's Daughter," the song that plays over the closing credits, because of the line "raised ( ... )

I HAD'T CONSIDERED THIS AND UGHHHH YES!!!!!

Isn't the soundtrack great?!? I'm SOOOOOO glad that they only had instrumental score throughout the movie but some of the songs on the soundtrack are PERFECT! I am obsessed with Neko Case's 'Nothing to Remember', the whole song just IS Katniss but I DIE a little inside at I'm ashamed that I'm barely human/And I'm ashamed that/I don't have a heart you can break/I'm just action/And at other times reaction. Way to summarise Katniss' defining contradictions (instinct vs. overthinking, soldier vs. revolutionary traits) in 8 words!

I am obsessed with that "songs from district 12 and beyond" soundtrack. And part of me wonders if they gathered artists, gave them the books, and said "write us a song" because I could swear there's a song on there that is all Finnick/Annie and there is no F/A in THG.

Margaret Atwood... I have never read her poetry before, but I am in love with A Handmaid's Tale (my first introduction). The allusions you made with THG are gorgeous, tragic and just all-around wonderful!!!

'The Handmaid's Tale' was the first piece of Atwood (and dystopia) I read and I loved it as well. The poetry is really wonderful so if you get a chance I'd definitely give it a try!

Wow...just...wow.
I'm overwhelmed with how her poetry fits so perfectly with the trilogy. You mentioned some interpretations that I didn't even think about, which give another dimension and depth to the story. Just when I thought I couldn't love this story more, here you are, with this awesome post.
Thank you so much for sharing it with us!
